    foot drop please help !!!

To add what Azure has said, when you do a basal test without eating any carb so no bolus, test bg levels every 2hrs and hope that your basal doseage is right and that yr bg levels are about 7mmol every 2hrs. If they go low or higher than 7mmol, then log the data down so that you can see whether...

    UP DATE

It's good to see that a pump has helped you Phil and I hope that your CCG will feel a bit of a gulp at the back of the throat when they read your consultants report. All the best for 2016

    foot drop please help !!!

@ryan1990 the only way of knowing whether you have a tumour is to have tests done at a hospital and not use Dr Google to diagnose and make yourself worry unnecessarily. As Robert has said, you are bolus heavy and basal light which is most likely the cause of your bg problems. Usually, when the...

Bolusing for fat, protein AND carbs in a meal

Although I always counted my carb intake in 10g exchanges (1966 for me), I never counted the protein and fat and was told that I didn't need to in the presence of carb and that worked ok for me until I decided to have a go at eating low carb food for a lot of my meals.

    Basal analysis

If you drink a lot of cuppas at work with milk in them, if haven't allowed for them to be dealt with by your basal need, then you will need to allow for them in your bolus

    Basal analysis

Looks like you need to change the 2pm and 3pm basal slots if your basals are on the hour

    Basal analysis

That's about right.....alter the 10am and the 2pm but beware that when you basal test for the morning leading up to lunch, the 10am basal might need a tweak but you'll be able to spot that as you bg test

    Basal analysis

What target bg are you trying to get? Also, try to bg test every 60 mins Are your present basal rate time frames on the hour or 30mins past or before?

    Finger pricking getting painful

When at home or sitting down somewhere, I dont prick my fingertips that much anymore. Instead, I prick the front of my fingers just below the nailbed on a very low fingerprick setting and then bend my finger and gently massage from the middle of my finger up towards the nailbed so that the...

    Inset site absorption rate difference

Certain parts of my body doesn't absorb insulin that well so I usually avoid or use an increased temp basal. You could try using an 8mm set or go for the Inset 30 which is a 30 degree angle and that might work ok. I would urge you though to just stay with the areas you have been using until you...

does this mean I have not been getting Basal?

Hi @Gaz it's difficult to know what the basal rate changes will do to your bg until you start testing every hour. Also, as you don't know if you need to allow 2hrs for bg to change or just the 1hr as the Insight like the Combo has 24hr basal rate time slots. The only way you will know is...

    Bolus or Basal

How about daughter eating less carb in the snack if bg is lower than you would like? Also, using the Combo bg meter, it's possible to change the carb ratios to add another 0, like 10u to 70g instead of 1u to 7g. By adding another 0, you can get a bit more manipulation on how much bolus gets...

does this mean I have not been getting Basal?

Until you are able to get most of your basal rates sorted ok, you might need to adjust your correction factor to suit different times of the day. Once your basal rates have all been adjusted to being ok, the correction factor will probably stay somewhere near the same unless a drop or increase...

does this mean I have not been getting Basal?

Basal rate testing is as short as it is long, as any time is ok to start the test as long as bg levels are in an ok range and no bolus has been used and food eaten in the previous 5hrs leading up to starting. If you are always on 10mmol before bed and thats with food and bolus for eve meal...

does this mean I have not been getting Basal?

Since having a pump, I've always used a pump bg monitoring logbook - AccuChek and now Animas. These are excellent for logging the bg levels, the bolus, the correction bolus, the carb eaten and the hourly basal rate being used. I can look at the readings and spot where I need to start making a...
