Basal analysis

So. I've been having low bloods around 4-5pm for 4 days straight have reduced basal and
Done basal test today, so no food or bolus since 7 this morning. Tests were
12.00. 11.1
13.12. 10.2
13.58. 7.3
14.30. 6.4
15.20. 7.0
16.45. 5.4
17.16. 5.2.

Is it the drop that I see around 16.30, ( 7s down to 5s) That indicates the time of a basal adjustment or is it the whole afternoon.

Thanks in advance.

You've dropped gradually from 12.00 @lely

The biggest drop was between 13.12 & 13.58 where you dropped by 2.9mmol/l which is a lot, you need to tweak your basal rates 2 hours before the change occurs.

Edited to include the following:

Evaluating the results and Suggested Changes

For each time period:

  • Compare the BG readings for the three times you have tested a particular time period and look for a pattern
  • BG changes of more than 2.0mmol/l between readings indicate the need to adjust the basal rate
  • Make basal rate changes in small increments, typically 10%
  • The basal rate should be increased 1-2 hours before the BG begins its rise or the basal rate needs to be decreased 1-2 hours before the BG begins its fall
  • Make one change at a time
  • Re-evaluate that time frame after any changes to the basal rate are made
  • Then move on to the next time period

It's hard to have any idea what to suggest without knowing what your current pump basal profile settings are.

HOWEVER, if you have been fasting all day then something has clearly gone wonky. As already mentioned, that initial drop around 13:00 is disturbing large but the drop around 15:20 should also be watched.

The standard advice given is to make a change to your rates 2 hours before you want it to take effect. But that's just the standard advice and things may (or may not) work differently for you. So start by going with the standard advice and see how that works for you, perhaps?

Were you otherwise roughly flat during the AM?

It's so puzzling. at the moment it's been one rate from 7am though till 6pm. while I seen where the rises and drops have been. So it falls at 12ish by about 2-3 on 3 days of the last 5. stays steady from 13.00 till about 16.00 then takes another dive. So on reading books and all the good advice I'd.say there were 2 changes needed within that time one around 10 and then a lower one again around 14.00. I know it's individual to me but does that sound credible.

woke on 9.8 at 7.15am

Then 9.30 9.8
10.30. 7.6
11.30. 9.3
12.00 11.1

I know the variance in this could be bolus. Not even considering analysing that yet. Haha.

What target bg are you trying to get?
Also, try to bg test every 60 mins
Are your present basal rate time frames on the hour or 30mins past or before?

That's about right.....alter the 10am and the 2pm but beware that when you basal test for the morning leading up to lunch, the 10am basal might need a tweak but you'll be able to spot that as you bg test

I tried the test today, was going okish but started falling at 15.10 to 4.2 and by 16.30 was 3.6 so will do it again on Sunday or Monday

We will get there lely

Looks like you need to change the 2pm and 3pm basal slots if your basals are on the hour

Target is 7 at the moment I'm gonna I've already adjusted for 10 and 2, but won't basal test this slot again till Monday now as my weekdays are different to weekends so I'll work on my over night ones tomorrow and see if there the same as Monday night Tues morning.

I was like this Tues weds with test, going low about 4ish so never finished tests but still reduced from 0.875 to 0.825 and yesterday to 0.800. Still a little low at 5 ish again today so tomorrow will be 0.775, it was a lot better I think today as I wasn't droping drastically so I do feel like there's light, but can't test again tomorrow for same time as my activity level on sat is nowhere near mon-fri.
I'm still optimistic.

If you drink a lot of cuppas at work with milk in them, if haven't allowed for them to be dealt with by your basal need, then you will need to allow for them in your bolus

It will take time to get there I'm sure but think of the long term and stay optimistic, I was feeling a little down last week with all the lows and waking up low, but I adjusted 2 blocks that were alot higher than the others (3am and 5am) and touch wood not had a hypo when I have first woken, this made me feel alot better.
