    Dexcom CGM

Good luck with Dexcom. ... I found that eating a lowish carb diet, enabled the G4 to be more stable than eating a lot of carb for the first few days to allow the sensor to bed in. To get the best out of cgm it needs to be used for about 2 to 3 weeks. Get yrself some Liftplus spray to remove...

Type 1: Need a new start...

I've learned to my cost that trying to eat carb on a high bg level even with a correction, doesn't produce normality within 4 hrs. It takes ages and usually means using a bit more correction. I now wait for a good hour to allow bg to lower with the correction and then bolus for food. Basal...

    Strange goings on with Basal

My bg also changes similar to MDI but usually I wait for a day or so to see if a pattern is forming, then I start adjusting the offending basal rates. Sometimes the change only lasts for a few days and then returns back to how it was. Pumps keep you on your toes but dont worry

Type 1: In need of some advice/support

For people who have a basic routine every day and have a coffee break at home or at work, eating a snack is very doable as most non diabetics eat snacks through desire whereas for diabetics, it's a necessity. Lunchtime is usually around midday to 1.30pm so this is ok for twice daily users...

Type 1: In need of some advice/support

@ Chamberlain If your mum is having trouble mentally and physically with complying with the multi injection basal bolus regime, then see if things are far better in using twice daily insulins and just remembering to eat set quantities of carb every 3hrs during the day. This regime in many...

Your Everyday gear... What do you take with you when you go to work/school/out?

Sometimes I more or less trust Dexcom to be more or less within 0.7mmol difference to a bg test but I usually confirm this to be so by doing a bg test about 2hrs beforehand. At the moment sensor in my tummy is tending to be 1.0mmol higher than a bg test during the night when asleep but once up...

Type 1: Help needed for my diabetic boyfriend!!

Hi it's far easier to control bg levels eating small amounts of carbohydrate rather than large especially when bg levels are really high. Unfortunately, there's a far bit to know about using bolus basal insulin safely Most people usually get better results through using an insulin to...

Pumping: Is it right that my diabetes is still not under control after nine years.

Basal rates will unfortunately need to change as and when the body decides that more or less insulin is needed for whatever reason so to achieve perfection just basal rate test every day :rolleyes:i:banghead:bk:D

    Catch Up

Out of a choice of 2 basals, I would lean towards using Lantus as the backup because it works a bit quicker than Tresiba and the need for using a backup basal is probably no more than 3 days before using a pump again.

    Highs after changing my pump

I have not got an Omnipod but if I had a high bg after inserting a new cannula, I would do a correction dose of insulin back to my target bg. My target is 6mmol so if my bg was 9mmol I would need a correction dose to cover 3mmol so that my bg returned back to my target.

Pumping: Is it right that my diabetes is still not under control after nine years.

Hi Liz my bg control also changes every month. I have days when my bg starts to drop for a few days and then by altering the basal I get back to normal again and am ok for a few days and then Start getting higher bg so have to re alter the basal to cope ok again. I never know what time frame...

Pump: Help, can't seem to bring BG levels down.

Usually, if I eat about 10g carb, I will just bolus for the carb and ignore the protein and fat, but if I eat just protein in a meal along with no carb veg, I add up the protein content of the food and then divide that by 4 and just bolus for that amount so 16g of protein becomes 4g carb...

    Toujeo Insulin - BEWARE!!!!!

Does toujeo come in a specific insulin pen? If it does, then it might be the pen that is faulty and not the insulin.

    Dexcom started yesterday.

Yes.....xDrip with Nightscout will alarm on a mobilr phone but in the meantime, try using a longer tube on the pump and put pump outside the bed in a glass dish and then activate a loud alarm. The pump will then sound really loud then.

    Artificial pancreas trial

Sadly, a fast acting insulin with short duration action hasn't materialised as yet. Biodel in the US was on brink of developing Viaject but it failed along the way. Novolog/Novorapid has got its problems due to its slow onset with longer duration but weirdly is a very common insulin used in...

    Insulin Pump

In my house, room temp when I am at home is about 20C but when in bed and go out, the central heating gets turned down to save money on bills. I always store my insulin in the fridge and just fill up a cartridge for the pump when I need to and then get the csrtridge up to body temp because the...
