for some strange reason in the past week I have been have to use a temporary basal reduction of 40% during the night and I don't understand why, does anyone have any idiea ?

It's quite a significant reduction, are you feeling ok in general, or lost weight (through choice) recently?

I have a very mild cold nothing major and I have not lost any weight, I tried it at a 30% reduction last night and woke up with a BS reading of 2.1, so I am finding this really strange to say the least

To much exercise during the night?

Do you take any night medication for the cold? I find paracetemol makes me drop at night presumably by occupying my liver.

It's probably the cold - might just be bog standard lurgi but illness can do funny things. Normally illness makes me go high but I had something last year, just a minor cold type thing, that definitely reduced my insulin requirements hope the cold isn't brewing to anything bigger, it probably isn't.

It is strange but sometimes you can't trace a reason for changes, I'm sane as caterpillar & illness raises my BG, hope you get it sorted soon.

illness normally raises I basal needs too hence the the confusion, I'll phone the DSN on Monday and see what she says, had my bloods done last week so I will find out what my Ha1ac is too

I was low as well at 3.5 at 5.30am . So I will try a slight reduction tonight. My basal does change though a lot, it also did on MDI.. Like my pump so far though.

Me too but on occasion a cold has lowered it. Makes no sense.

Just keep testing frequently and adjust your basal as needed. IG&s you're worried about dropping overnight, do some extra tests just to be safe.

Yeah you would think the cold would raise your basal needs @Gaz-M ,

Just replying to say good luck and hope your HbA1c result is a good one :)

My bg also changes similar to MDI but usually I wait for a day or so to see if a pattern is forming, then I start adjusting the offending basal rates. Sometimes the change only lasts for a few days and then returns back to how it was. Pumps keep you on your toes but dont worry

Time of the year. It does random things to random people. You just roll with the punches I find.

My basal needs changed too at the end of last year. Rather randomly my dose dropped to only needing 2-3 units once a day. However, that only lasted a few weeks and now I'm back to having to increase it every day so will prob be back to normal dosage by the end of the week.
All very odd and I never got to the bottom of why it dropped and really don't understand why its going back up!

glad to know it's not just me, just came off the phone to my DSN and have dropped night time basal dose, will have to see what happens in the coming weeks, btw my Hb1Ac is down to 44mmol from 46 in September but I'm guessing that might be down to a fair few hypos
