    Preventative measures against bowel cancer

43% of bowel cancer may be preventable with diet and lifestyle changes - Yet there is no blame attached to getting this form of cancer (not that i'm saying that here should be BTW) I'm just comparing it to diabetes, which has a genetic link for many people and yet sufferers get the blame for...

    Chilli Peppers?

If food can make you BG rise, there's a kind of logic that some should lower it, sadly I haven't found anything that does lower it.... I have tried cinnamon, cider vinegar. Nothing works except maybe a glass fo red wine ...now where's that bottle.....

    Tiredness?

When i was trying to eat the 40% per meal carbs that Ihad been advised to by my HCP, I was tired blurred vision, generally muzzy I suppose would be a good way to describe it. Some people have said if they go off the carb wagon for a day then next morning they feel like they have a hangover...

    Tiredness?

Hi dazzy Golly a good low carb diet -that's a tricky one because it is about as individual as we are... Sorry to be so vague but everybody has their own idea and of how many carbs to eat daily. I call myself a reduced carber really, not a low carber, as I don't actually count carbs but I do...

your daily diet and treats please?

This where it is important to know your own body because mine is particularly sensitve to wheat, and if I ate Ka-mon's diet I would have high BG levels. On the other hand, I can (but I don't usually) eat potatoes in bigger amounts than many people are able to. This condition is a learning...

    Tiredness?

Before I gave up my high carb diet and got my BG under control, I was tired all the time. One of the first things that my husband noticed was that I was no longer falling asleep every afternoon. But it really is difficult to tell what is going on, if you are not testing the effects of foods on...

your daily diet and treats please?

Roxy I find as a woman there are times when I just can't say no to chocolate. When that happens I eat some 85% dark chocolate, this is quite low sugar - for a chocolate - and the high fat content slows down the absorption of it, and a strip of it does no damage to my BG levels. Most of the...

why did i get diabetes? is it because i am fat?

Roxy the link between being overweight and diabetes is complicated and not fully understood yet, and as Patch indicated, there is the suggestion that T2 and being overweight have a common cause. And while it is true that most (but not all by any means) T2's are fat, not all fat people will...

    Staying on the sugar wagon

If you are buying a ready made cream cake just check the carbs, as sometimes they put the fruit in a syrup and it isn't always so easy to tell how much meringue there is. but enjoy.......

oops let myself down big style!!

If it were me, it would be the cereal that caused the spike. I eat the 85% dark chocolate, the co-op's one has 18gm carb in a 100gm bar, and because of the high fat content even if I binge with a whole bar it doesn't effect my BG (though it's really bad for the weight of course). This chocolate...

    please help if you can

You are seeing here on of the issues around life as a diabetic and this is why you need your meter - despite what the HCP's say. I could not eat these cakes but you can - and the only way to tell who can and who can't, is to use the meter...... Also some of us are more sensetive to some types...

    Staying on the sugar wagon

Soleros are about 18 carbs per ice cream. Which isn't too bad yet they feel like a real treat somehow - but not chocolate. My big treat to myseff is a meringue nest (12.5gm carb) and cream, you can add blueberries if your BG's toerate them and it feels like a good desert. But sometimes I just...

    Metformin and upset tum

How are you taking your meformin? For the first year or so I was on 4 x500 every day two at night two in the morning and I found I had to actually take it during a meal, even 5 mins before would cause a problem, and even right after didn't seem to work. I have since been reduced to 1 at night...
