    Echo

I swapped to Levemir just so I could use the Echo, I then started having an allergic reaction to the Levemir and had to go back to Lantus. I was so annoyed with the useless Sanofi pens that I developed a method to use Lantus in the Echo! The main problem is that a lantus cartridge is slightly...

    Levemir Pens

Pens are made by the insulin manufactures so you should use a novo pen (echo,novopen4,novopen5) for all novo insulin (levemir, novorapid, etc). Lantus is made by sonafi and requires a sonafi pen like clikstar. The echo and novopen5 both fit novo insulins. The echo has 1/2 unit increments but...

    Levemir Pens

Cartridges take up less space in your fridge than flexpens. Echo or novopen5 are the best pens depending on your dosage. The memory function is handy. I like the BD 4mm micro fine as well.

@Celsus I have a UK shipping address, just not a UK credit card. Are you sure they check it?

    Freelee Banana Girl HCLF

Best part of that video was the echidna, big ******. "When compared with rises in glucose levels, beef raised insulin levels 27 times higher than brown rice did!" What does that even mean? it doesn't make sense! Are they saying that if you raise your bgl by 1 mmol from eating beef you produce...

    I want a baby! :)

From the title, I thought you were looking for volunteers. Sorry, I'm past my use by date.:) I had T1 for over 25 years before having kids and I now have 2 healthy teenage daughters who don't have T1. Although their odds of getting T1 are slightly increased, I wouldn't change anything. Best of...

    FREESTYLE LIBRE ON SALE!!!!

Is anyone getting Libre products shipped outside the UK? Have you used non UK credit cards at checkout? They geoblock their web site which is easy to get around with a vpn, but I'm unsure if they check the origin of credit cards or have any other obstacles to stop people outside the UK getting...

    Hello

Hi @Matt J, welcome on board. I'd like a CGM system as well but they are so expensive. The other option is a freestyle libre which currently isn't available where I am and is not accepting new customers atm in UK. As you're on novo insulins, you might want to look at Echo pens. I find the...

Has anyone here been a diabetic for more than 40 years?

Here is the Australian one with a bit of background, apparently it use to be worldwide. One guy has had T1 for 85 years, I'm just beginning.:wideyed: http://www.diabetesaustralia.com.au/About-Diabetes-Australia/Kellion-Victory-Medal/

    Guessing insulin doses techniques

I tend not to ask when I'm out to dinner, I just use the WAG method of carb counting (wild ***** guess). Just compare the food size and volume on the plate to food you know ie bread, rice, pasta, potato. Then try to get a couple of bgl tests in for corrections.

    Lantus: spotted a trend.

Thanks @Jaylee I've never noticed this but I will keep an eye on it. I'm half way through my current cartridge now, always left at room temp.

    Basal / Bolus Ratios

I'm now on 16u a day (split dose). When I did DAFNE they started everyone at 24u(split) which was a reduction for everyone in the class. So I think 24u is their standard basal dose.

    Type 1 and Frozen Shoulders

I had frozen shoulders about 7 years ago. I eventually had the joints injected with some fluid to free them up. At the time I had no idea it was related to diabetes. It took a few months to clear after the injections but now I have full functionality and no pain.

Has anyone here been a diabetic for more than 40 years?

I think half the people in this thread were diagnosed in 1972, must have been a bad year for T1

Has anyone here been a diabetic for more than 40 years?

I've had T1 for 43 years, since I was 7. Lots of drugs, alcohol and partying in my teens and 20s but somehow I've got away with it. I must have some protective genes in there somewhere. I am now under pretty tight control and am confident of not getting complications. Here in Victoria you get a...

    Levemir

A lot of people take their basal insulin twice a day, including me. I take it at 7am/pm. I don't think changing times by an hour or so will make much difference. I have tried both Levemir and Lantus and found that I needed slightly more Levemir for the same coverage as I get with Lantus (around...
