What Have You Given Up For Lent?

Haha! That HAS to be an old joke... But I haven't heard it before.

What Have You Given Up For Lent?

Oh dear! That's sad. My boyfriend was brought up Catholic and went to a Catholic school. In his own words: "At fifteen I gave up Catholicism for Lent and I never looked back". I'm C of E, so I've decided to observe Lent but our vicar is pretty laid back about it... He keeps telling us...

What Have You Given Up For Lent?

I was only diagnosed (T2) about 5 weeks ago and I'm trying to control my diabetes with diet and exercise (which means no chocolate and low carbs). I've also given up the 5, or so, cigarettes per week that I used to smoke... Which left me with a bit of a problem as to what to give up for Lent! My...

    Is Masterchef fixed?

Sid, you beat me to it! One of the funniest parodies of all time... I love it so much. not sure if Masterchef is a fix, I must admit I hadn't thought about it (and I'm normally hot on conspiracy theories!). :?

    Feel tired all the time.

If you snore a lot (like me) it could be obstructive sleep apnoea... I recently had a test (overnight) and my airways keep collapsing at night, which means I don't get enough "deep" sleep.

    Steady Progress?

Sounds good to me! I'm trying to use diet and exercise, so stories like this are very heartening. I wonder if diet could solve the cholesterol too?

    Food issues

Catherinecherub is right, I think. Mindlessly eating (not tasting or needing it) is about "stuffing down emotions" that we don't want to voice or deal with. It works in the very short term but then just adds to life's problems.

    Turning over a new leaf.........

Chocolate is the answer, who cares what the question is Unless the question is "Why am I going to end up blind and shuffling around in my old age?". Chocolate is nice but I'd just cross it off my list of things I can have and be done with it, if I were you. Love yourself more than...

This should be an educational cartoon film!

    Im new

Hi there! So sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I found out I am T2 about a month ago and I kept crying for days... It's certainly a shock. But you've already started fighting back and you want a baby, so NOTHING will stop you! This site is amazing... hang in there. x

    New SD Codefree Meter

Xyzzy I will be sure NEVER to compare two meters (when I get one)... I'd be JUST like you. I get the insane white coat hypertension too and I'm certain that stress contributed to me getting diabetes. I record how much walking I do and when I forgot to wear my pedometer one day I went MENTAL and...

    Why ashamed ?

"Fattybetic"? "Self Inflicted Diabetes"? Wow, there are some HARSH people out there. :***: Mind you, I'm angry with myself that after losing a lot of weight I let it pile back on and forgot about all the pre-diabetic warnings I've had over the years... But, yanno, it's my job to kick my own...

    Disability living allowance

Thanks for saying this, because there is so much disinformation out there. I can't see the point in poor and/or sick people blaming one another for problems with benefits. I live in a very mixed area (all colours and religions) and I'm satisfied that each community contributes to this country as...

    Food issues

I think what you need to do is find a new way to comfort/reward yourself. I've cut the cigs out too and am also trying to control T2 with diet (and LOADS of walking), so I know where you are coming from. It is a bit of a challenge to cope sometimes... I'd happily sit down and eat to cheer myself...

    worried about going blind!

I was only recently diagnosed with diabetes but a couple of years ago I got a small blood clot in my right retina, which caused some permanent blurry patches in my vision. At the time I was tested and found not to be diabetic, so they blamed my BP. Now I wonder if that was right... Anyway, I'm...

Feeling down after a trip to the supermarket

Brilliant replies on this thread! Anna you are a genius  . Approaching things as a challenge can make them more fun. Dwelling on what we can't have is too depressing. Re exercise - I bought a pedometer and I keep my walking figures in a shiny little red book  - seeing myself hit...

    Hello There!

Been around for a bit, so time for my intro... I'm a 53 y/o woman, recently diagnosed and still slightly in shock. Am currently trying diet and exercise, to see if I can walk and low-carb my way to better health. Jeremy Kyle should give me a whole show but suffice to say my life has been...

    Totally confused

Hi Andy, your story sounds a lot like mine - except that I have now crossed the line into diabetes. But, like you, I have been told to sod off and try to get better for a bit. Seriously, the whole thing sucks. I have been refused a meter (I shall buy one) and can't see the nurse for weeks. I...

    Diabetes OCD!

I was diagnosed with type 2 roughly three weeks ago and I too am obsessed. I think this stems from the complete lack of help given by my doctor, the fact that I can't speak to the nurse until the 9th of March (!) and (mainly) the fact that I am absolutely TERRIFIED. I need to feel as though I...
