Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

So jealous of all your 5's! 6.1 on waking, but a steady rise to 7 over the following 2 hours. Might forgo the morning almonds and try the coffee with cream approach instead.

Quick and easy veggie stir fry - single serving in 10 mins. Super lazy, but full of flavour and a spicy, sweet dish that hits the spot on a cold winter night. I'm going to add some crispy bacon next time. It's light on protein so could certainly tolerate the addition of whatever meat you fancy...

I've become a low carb binger..

This happened to me in my first week of low carb. I went to a Brazilian BBQ place and protein binged like crazy (in my defence, it was my birthday...). I was very unhappy because I had no idea how I was going to get both blood sugar and weight under control. After nearly a month of low-carb my...

Blood glucose level through the roof

I love lemongrass and ginger tea when I have a cold. I know it's not quite the same as lovely honeyed drinks, but for me it hits the spot. Perhaps you could add some erythritol if you're desperate for sweetness. Orange juice is great for vitamin C (and terrible for blood sugar), but upping...

6.6 on waking. Still battling dawn phenomenon.

Type 2 Is weight loss the silver bullet?

I've tried very hard to make sure the changes are sustainable. I know I need to treat this as a lifestyle and not a diet. The only reason I'm talking in extremes is because my carb intake is drastically reduced (now around 30g carbs per day) and my go-to foods previously, even when losing weight...

suitable snack for on the move or at home

A small stick of cheese wrapped up with a slice of chorizo/salami etc is lovely. I personally don't like the idea of eating a tonne of those so find it easy to stop at one so my calorie allowance doesn't go out of whack. Nice and easy to wrap up and keep in the fridge and take 8 seconds to...

Type 2 Is weight loss the silver bullet?

I certainly hope it's sustainable. I've tried very hard to keep that in mind, and while the changes have been drastic (I previously ate an almost sarcastic amount of bread), I've been mindful that this isn't a diet, it's just how my life is now. Only time will tell, I suppose... I'm keeping a...

Type 2 Is weight loss the silver bullet?

I've been low carb since diagnosis. So a few weeks now. Thanks so much for your comment. It's made me feel so much better.

Type 2 Is weight loss the silver bullet?

I was diagnosed 2 and a half weeks ago, in that time I’ve got my FBG down from 18 to 7 and my post-prandial readings are consistently around 5.5-6.5. I feel like i'm doing the right things (regime in signature). I’ve discovered that my dawn phenomenon can be managed to some degree by a few...

    Women's issues on LCHF

I've experienced almost exactly the same thing. Diagnosed about 2 weeks ago, so this is my first diabetic period. My levels were raised for a couple of days right at the start (day before and first day). I normally have horrific cramps and have experienced almost nothing! Flow seems lighter...

    Useless doctors letters

I've had this same problem. It's so infuriating and anxiety-provoking! I called and asked for a call from the doctor to talk about my results. She called back in a few hours and gave me the basics prior to my appointment. Maybe turn on the waterworks...

    Sharing encouraging news!

I couldn't believe it! She said 'You need to do everything by the book, lose weight, walk everywhere'. I have already lost 100lbs, but clearly what I was putting into my body wasn't bringing my BG levels down. I was low calorie but certainly not low carb. If I had taken her advice I would have...

Thank you everyone for your kind responses! This forum has been such a valuable resource already. It seems whatever new, scary thing diabetes throws at me, I can find someone on here who has been through something similar. And as an update: I've found that eating 4 or 5 almonds immediately...

This is very basic, but great for those doing LCHF. I was struggling with breakfast as I have pretty bad morning peaks and discovered that my body really can’t stand morning carbs. I also have a long commute and not much time to get ready in the morning (unless I get up at 4.30am…) I make this...

    Sharing encouraging news!

Hi all! I posted last week about my expectations around bringing down my BG readings. I had it in my head that my FBG at diagnosis was 13, and my HBA1C was 18. Turns out I was wrong, I checked the results again, and that the real figures were actually FBG 18, A1C 13.Yikes. I was diagnosed...

Am I expecting too much too soon (BG levels)?

Thank you for the tip! I'll certainly give that a go. This morning I got rid of the yoghurt completely and my reading was lower. I think perhaps I'm not a morning carbs person...

Am I expecting too much too soon (BG levels)?

Good tip - How do you avoid contamination when wiping the first drop?

Am I expecting too much too soon (BG levels)?

Alpro Unsweetened. I think the bulk of the carb for breakfast came from the greek yoghurt which came out around 9g. I've been thinking that around 15g carbs per meal would be ok to aim for, but perhaps it's not the best thing for breakfast and I aim for lower in the morning.

Am I expecting too much too soon (BG levels)?

The breakfast was a smoothie comprising of... Almond milk (200mls) almond butter (teaspoon) Total 0% yoghurt (2 very heaped tablespoons) cocoa powder (teaspoon) Erythritol (just under a teaspoon) It tasted like chocolate Horlicks.
