    Diabetes and discrimination at work

At work (I work at a hospital) we consider type 1 diabetics as having a disability also

    Diabetes and discrimination at work

If your hypo's include fitting, loss of coordination, dizziness, loss of concentration and affect you for long after you've had them (including the inability to walk for a few hours-happens to me sometimes) then yes, this counts as a disability.

    Diabetes and discrimination at work

I'm registered as disabled with type 1 for 20 years, maybe ask his GP about the how to prove disability? It affects every day life and health, definitely a disability.

"normal relationship with food" what's that? TW eating disorder

As a type 1 diabetic (and I assume female) you are 3 times more likely to develop an eating disorder as a 'normal' person. There are huge aspects of guilt, psychological and physical dependance on foods that can encourage disordered thoughts in type 1's. I am slowly recovering but would be very...

    High fat, low carb

Thanks, and @noblehead, with the protein turning to carbs how do you work with that? I mean if you reduce the protein and eat mostly high fat, what is a typical meal like for you? Or do you keep the protein and inject accordingly?

    High fat, low carb

Ok so bare with me, having had t1 for over 20 years I've just started trying low carb high fat diet. Probably been doing it for 4 weeks now, an some highs and lows (both mentally and blood sugar wise). I was hoping to know whether I'm on the right track, this evening I ate meat balls, cheese...

    Insulin weight gain....?

hogweed yes that is true, also no offence but I really don't think you should be commenting on your partners weight unless you have her say-so. It's actually none of your business and has little to do with blood sugar.

Girlfriend needs higher levels to feel normal...

In all honesty 6-9 isn't very high at all, if she's in control and is testing regularly/has no complications it's really up to her what levels she keeps it at. She's had db for 30 years I'm sure if she was treating it badly she's know by now.

are type 1 diabetics more susceptible to mental illness

Yes type 1 diabetics are three times as likely to develop eating disorders and mental health problems. Theres been support for psychoanalytical assessments to be provided with type 1's annual reviews, I think this is a really good idea as I know many type1's that suffer from...

    Progesterone only pill

I went onto the progesterone only pill about 6 months ago due to having taken the combined for a few years and it really messing with my body. Whilst it is good in some respects, I actually found the water retention/urinating regularly really bad and was worried it was high bs. However, my bs...

    Favourite injection site

Slightly strange topic perhaps (this seems to be my thing every time I post a new thread on here) but I was wondering if everyone had a site they like injecting in most? Obviously we have to rotate the sites, and in no way is injecting fun, but my nicest place is usually the centre of my tummy :)

Type 1 rules we accidentally break :/

Really interesting responses, thanks guys. Yeah I would never recommend the mistakes I make, but as long as my diabetes is managed fairly well (HBA1C of 7 atmo), I'm too forgetful to change really. Old habits die hard! :/ Sent from the Diabetes Forum App

Type 1 rules we accidentally break :/

Okay, so there's already been a great thread started about rules for type 1's. Which has been great to read an helpful. However, having been a type 1 an now with training I see a lot of diabetics that I know break some of the small rules. Obviously nothing big like omitting insulin on purpose...

Can Glucose intolerance be mistaken for type 1

None of these factors would matter if you were a type 1, it has nothing to do with food or weight. To the op, is it potentially honeymoon period? How long since diagnosis? x

    Flu jab - any opinions?

Type 1 for over 20 years and never had the flu jab, even as a kid.

Type 1s: What stupid things have people said to you?

By a fitness 'expert' from some horrendous fit camp thing I went to years ago. "I know you're type 1 but you're big so you'll just end up getting type 2 as well." Oh riggghhhttt that's how it works :shifty:

    I am a 28 years old woman, I lost 10KG and I feel sexy.

Yes I think this is definitely under the category of disordered eating, with e.d's the criteria is when the thoughts about food are interrupting your day to day life and especially the guilt aspect. Are you able to ask your diabetes specialist for a specific e.d person to talk to? It's really...

    I am a 28 years old woman, I lost 10KG and I feel sexy.

If that's what she wants then of course that's good. It's just the concept that weight loss will allow her to feel 'loveable', unfortunately that is a psychological aspect that needs addressing not physical. In your case I can completely understand for health reasons. Me accepting my weight...

    I am a 28 years old woman, I lost 10KG and I feel sexy.

No not at all. I think the immense societal and misunderstanding of weight causes people to believe that restrictive ways of eating is the only way they can gain happiness and control. Eating disorders are psychological and the pressure and loss of control that comes from having type 1 can...

    I am a 28 years old woman, I lost 10KG and I feel sexy.

Unless weight loss is needed for health reasons, then no weight loss shouldn't be imposed on people and make people feel pressurised. Type 1 diabetics are 3 times more likely to develop eating disorders. I'm strong because I spent 5 years with eating disorders started from my obsession with...
