    op

What's the op? Pros short waiting times, consultant of your choice, nice food, room.to yourself. Cons expensive, usually same consultants do the same job in NHS though waiting times are longer etc. Also private hospitals don't 'do' emergencies so if anything goes wrong it's off to the NHS...

    low carb diet in hospital

Lots of people.having problems with hospital food. Has anyone tried asking for the diet they want? In our hospital patients choose from a long menu which is geared to the average patient and special choices for veggie/vegan, coeliac, halal.etc clearly marked. If there's nothing they want then...

    Type 1 What is this

Ringworms common but not serious. You might be able to get away with antifungal cream so you could.try your pharmacist but it needs assessing because sometimes they treat it with tablets so you would have to see your doc. It's also contagious so don't share towels and stuff like that. Good luck!

    Goodbye

I have read a couple of the threads in which the op feels attacked and can't honestly see what the problem was. There was no rudeness or personal.attacks. Some of what he said was picked up on and corrected but all in a courteous manner. Surely the whole point of a forum like this is to give...

    Normal range

I think that's completely normal. Once all my non diabetic kids and my hubby tested themselves on my meter and they were all of them in the 5s that was a couple of hours after food too.

    Pumps and CCGs

I think bobcurly is right. You would.have to be registered at a gp surgery covered by the ccg you think might fund your pump which could.be a challenge if you live outside the area? Even if you transfer your care to a different hospital it will still be the ccg for your gp surgery that has to...

    A feeling of sunburn

Quite common to get something called post herpetic neuralgia after shingles. Does settle down eventually but can take years. Was the antidepressant on offer called amitriptyline (Its an old.fashioned antidepressant). If so it's quite commonly prescribed for neuralgia so if I were him I...

If you do low carb high fat, what percentage of calories come from fat?

I have sympathy with what @Tannith says. I would and did find the high fat aspect of a lchf diet quite repulsive! I guess I have been a picky eater most of my life but prior.to diagnosis had settled into a balanced diet using complex carbs plenty of fruit and veg lean meat and fish and very...

Cholesterol query - is this bad or okay?

They don't get paid for prescribing a statin directly. One of the QOF targets is a certain percentage of patients with diabetes having a total cholesterol of less than 5. And they are incentivised to meet QOF targets. So they get paid to actively manage cholesterol levels which usually means...

Type 2 Type 2 diet control

Oh I see. So you use a derogatory term because their professional opinion differs from your own. Do you call them nursie when you see them face to face or just when you're anonymised behind a computer screen? #justcurious

Type 2 Type 2 diet control

Not sure why you always call your nurse 'nursie'. I'm a nurse and find that word totally disrespectful, rude and reminiscent of the old fashioned sexist carry on films. Todays nurses are highly trained and professional, it would be great if the old fashioned public perception of nurses could...

    Notes to self!!!!

Don't beat yourself up. I don't eat very low carb but combine lowish carb (100-130g) daily with low dose gliclazide. Even though I have more flexibility with carbs than a very low carbers I still found myself in M+S foodhall today picking up all the cakes I can't eat! It's a horrible thought...

60 YEARS ON INSULIN IS IT A SUCCES YEP

One of my earliest memories is of my aunt boiling my grandmother's syringes and being small.at the time absolutely fascinated by plopping a tablet in the pee and seeing it fizz! All these advances in treatment would have saved her life she only lived for 10 years past her adult onset type 1...

How to stay young - BBC1 Type 2 Element

If this is the same thing a friend of mine who works as a diabetes specialist nurse has been asked by DUK if he will join a working group to look at remission/cure. I believe from what he has said that the panel is made up of various disciplines of hcps including doctors consultants nurses and...
