Dr Mark Porter: The diet that’s almost as good as statins — and I’m proof that it works

I'm thinking the same @GeoffersTaylor with regards to the dairy aspect. It's so easy to over-indulge on things like cheese and even cream. Well, it is for me anyway. I've started reducing that dairy intake, mixing in some avocado smoothies, more fish and oils. Was picking up my prescription...

My new Freestyle Libre - My findings...

A brilliant post again @Celsus, thank you so much! That basically is my only worry about the sensors and coming off with sport related activities but you have demonstrated through your post that ALL sporting activities are possible. When I get my Libre I will go through this process which you...

24 Year Old, Type 1 as of 4/02/2016

Yeah - you are right @ElkBond . The doctor said to me that I was late for this type 1 business but once I came on here I realise I wasn't! Very similar to myself - I've always eaten pretty well, do lots of running/cycling and don't drink. Infact, since diagnosis it's made me more determined to...

@ElkBond - hopefully very soon once I get my financial house in order. On the side, I was diagnosed April 2015, at 24. 25 next week. Did the doctor say anything about you being late for type 1 etc?

Hey @Mal1978 - hope it improves for you soon regarding the carb counting etc. Lots of great information here on the forum. I've had some shockingly bad hypos - 2.2, 1.9 and a personal record - 1.4 lol. My own fault and at the start I just cried with hypos because of the emotional rollercoaster...

Libre starter pack is £150 including two sensors and reader for sensors. Each sensor lasts 14 days. Sensors are £50 each. I honestly don't want it attached every single day it's just more to find out patterns: basal patterns and especially sporting activities - running and cycling. Look forward...

My new Freestyle Libre - My findings...

Awesome @Celsus, a really helpful post. Do you cover the sensor with anything to prevent it falling off? I've heard people use RockTape to provide extra support for the sensor. If so, what size? If not, what do you use? Thanks :)

How can I use coconut oil

Well done @donnellysdogs - I'm guessing you have must wait that 30 minutes otherwise the spike would be high? My problem would be stopping at 30g!!

Great article in the Independent today regarding Fat in the diet

Thanks for sharing @tim2000s Popped into surgery earlier for prescription. My GP said, 'next set of bloods we get for you there needs to be an improvement in that cholesterol otherwise I'm putting you onto statins because high cholesterol blocks arteries etc etc'... I need to do some reading.

how to work out carbs (turmeric smoothie)

Mango, pineapple and banana - just pure glucose. Will have your numbers rocketing and even if you try and cover the dosage with insulin it won't work fast enough or if you inject too early you might go too low. Frustrating right? I made a smoothie tasted yum actually: Half an avocado 1 cup of...

    fizzy drinks

You are right. It will vary from person to person. I don't see how a fizzy drink of diet coke/pepsi max now and again can be of any harm? We do a good job as it is without restricting it further lol.

    Anyone live near Glasgow x

I remember venturing to Govan, Ibrox and Easterhouse to see it. Pretty rough but suppose growing up in N.Ireland I've seen the same much closer to my doorstep. Shocking how low the average life expectancy is in some parts of Glasgow!
