They don't know they have diabetes. Ask them what wat shwe last FBG, HBa1c, AST/ALT, HDL/LDL, and their Systolic and diastolic pressure values, and how was their last ECG. Wait for the answers. Especially for Cholesterol and glicated hemoglobin, and wait for the answers. Doesn't work for...

    How do yo cope

Problem is two fold - one is that this kind of people is people you can't avoid like parents and relatives, or coworkers. The other problem is that for a lot of people, like me, to following a diet implies to use tricks like don't having at home pasta and rice or sweets, use homemade salads to...

An egg thread - good news

What I think is that if you're eating eggs in a reasonable quantity, like two or three a day you aren't going to eat other foods that could be more problematic. On the other hand if one eats 6 eggs a day maybe some problem could arise if is not a farmer.

    totally at a loss

@frankbegbie we say "non tutti i gusti sono alla menta" (not all flavours are the mint one) meaning that what works for somebody doesn't mean it works for anybody. You could try DASH or Mediterranean diet and be followed by a NHS dietician, I don't know.A lot of people had a significan weight...

Type 2 Practice nurse said not to test

I think the advice you can everything IN MODERATION is a sensible advice. Because if you really like to eat a slice of pizza or a slice of cake now and then you can and if you don't eat other sugars and starches you are fine.

    totally at a loss

Also stay away from sugary dinks, snacks, cheap prepared and prepackaged foods. Try to but fresh vegetables directly from farmers. If you have a freezer you could also buy meat wholesale. I don't know how it's feasible for you but I found that cutting the middlemen makes you make savings. I pay...

Or you could make household chores, then dance half-naked, like this ;-) Or go full baroque style I've danced in costume - you start sweating a lot ;_)

Also this, adding the advice to use fresh pineapple instead of tinned one (because fresh pineapple tastes better and doesn't have addedd sugars) http://www.diabeticlivingonline.com/recipe/sweet-and-sour-pork

What is the evidence that the eatwell plate is wrong?

Or simply the industrial food processing and even the artisan techniques have changed a lot. I've seen that on me whole wheat bread from a posh bakery that uses old this and traditional that costs 5 €/kg doesn't make me spike the BG ather 2 hours, but the 2€/kg whole wheat bread from the...

    I have sinned

Or all in Latin. "quia peccavi nimis cogitatione, verbo, opere, et omissione, mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa" In "cogitatione" I think about pizza and ice creams everyday. ;-) I've done worse in my vacations and i gained 3 kg in a week... Because if you love fine wines and cheeses and do...

What is the evidence that the eatwell plate is wrong?

What you are saying is not correct - as you could see in the linked documents, calorie consumption is increased while total fat consumption remained the same and increased compared with '70s values source https://www.ers.usda.gov/webdocs/publications/42215/5836_aib750g_1_.pdf?v=41055 Nutrient...

What is the evidence that the eatwell plate is wrong?

Check if one has stopped to smoke is easy. You aren't littering fags everywhere and stopped to visit the tobacconist. On the other hand checking ifone is taking the correct number of calories and the correct percentage of nutrient is really more difficult. Rough guidelines are guidelines, that...

    Dietician!!!

Dunno about NHS, but it's possible to choose another dietitian, even if eventually this mean a trip in another city still being covered by NHS? In Italy with SSN I could choose with specialist or hospital to go for my exams, and in most cases to ask for a specific doctor, with the only downside...

    Urgent help (diabetes 2)

I think it's the moment to phone to your GP and ask an urgent visit. Could be anything from a flu to a tyroid problem or something more serious like tuberculosis not related to diabetes.

Type 2 Practice nurse said not to test

If you like a more "natural" statin you could ask for lovastatin because the production can be done by farming Pleurotus ostreatus and extract from it. Or you can eat them, if you like the taste, actually ;-) I suppose that the lovastatin content in whole fungi is quite low...
