    Rebound after hypo

Bethan is correct. I only recently discovered after 20years of T1 diabetes that I've been over-treating my hypos the whole time... Resulting in elevated sugar levels post hypo, which I then tried to correct and the whole cycle starts over again. You usually don't need a lot to bring you back...

    Avoiding accidental IV with Lantus

I think you should be able to get any length you want.... well, from the choices that are available. I use 5mm, but there is also 8mm and 4mm to my knowledge. I don't think it makes any difference to the NHS which ones you use.

    Doctor Restricting Insulin Prescription

The GP is restricting the OP's access to their insulin. I personally find it very difficult to get a repeat prescription in so frequently due to other health problems and access to my surgery, so having to get one box at a time would seriously affect me / cause a serious problem. So I don't...

haha... that made me laugh far too much!

    Chinese meals

T1s can adjust insulin to cover the extra carbs in chinese and I would've thought there's plenty of vegetable and meat based dishes that T2s can go for. As for monosodium glutamate - not all chinese places add this to their food. There are more and more that make a point of NOT adding it...

    Doctor Restricting Insulin Prescription

Are you just under the care of the GP or do you go to a diabetes clinic / have a diabetes consultant or DSN? They would be able to back you up about needing a larger supply! It does seem utterly ridiculous. How does limiting your supply help anyone? You still need the same amount of insulin...

    low carbs

Take a look at this part of the forum - it's the low-carb food section! :D

    Sugar Free Squash

That's still 3g CHO per 100ml of the neat undiluted squash, ie, before you add water. So when you use a little bit in a whole glass of water, the amount of carbs is not significant. :)

    I HAVE A QUESTION?

how about eating things other than chocolate cake? Chocolate cake is not the best thing for a diabetic to be eating if you're hungry! Try finding things that don't have carbohydrate in them, or very little carbohydrate... Then it won't affect your blood sugar level and you won't need to worry...

    Remembering to test

I quite often forget too... I've had a lot of trouble over the years taking care of myself and having the right mindset to think about the things I need to think about in order to keep myself healthy... I'm starting to change though, which is good. One thing that's been suggested to me, though...

    Doctor Restricting Insulin Prescription

No doctor should be restricting your access to insulin. That is terrible! Have you spoken about your concerns to the doctor responsible for this? That would be a first step. It may be as simple as explaining what your insulin requirements are and that having more than one box at a time makes...

Where have you had a hypo?

I usually have them at home, but that might be because I don't often leave the house. Other places I've had them are while out shopping on the highstreet, getting blood taken for my biannual clinic appointment and once during a therapy session (my therapist wondered what on earth was...

    Bubble

There are quite often bubbles in insulin pens. I wouldn't worry too much. Do the 2 test units to get the insulin moving through the needle and when you place the pen against your skin the bubbles should move up to the rear end of the pen with gravity. If you're really worried though, discard...

    Sugar Free Squash

I don't understand why no-added sugar squashes aren't ok.... I was told they are absolutely fine from when I was diagnosed at age 11 and that was 20 years ago. Like someone said, the figures on the bottle are usually for the neat undiluted liquid and even that's a small amount of sugar. Once...

How old were you when you were diagnosed?

    T1 diagnosed at age 11, now 31.

    injecting in a public place

I was on 80u of Lantus until recently. (Now on 56.) It's not just CHO intake that affects it though - T1s can get insulin resistance like T2s do so they need much higher levels of insulin to do the same job. :)

    injecting in a public place

Erm please be careful when quoting people on here.... I DID NOT say that!! I was quoting someone else in the thread and picking them up on the fact that lots of people split their dose!! So maybe check you've quoted the right person before you post next time?!

    A new needle every injection

I NEVER go anywhere without a bag.... Yes I am female so possibly different for men but I always have my insulins with me and some spare needles. I keep the rubbish in my bag until Im home. Same goes for blood monitor. I feel safer having it with me in case of delays or changed plans or...

    Measuring carb effects

Im not sure about the effects of previous meals still left over but I would say that doing it in the morning / directly after you wake isn't the best time to do it. It's very common to experience the dawn phenomenon where the blood sugar rises due to hormone release around these times.... So...

Type 1 AND type 2 at the same time?

Im T1 and I have insulin resistance like a T2. I take metformin for it (also associated with my having PCOS and its link with high levels of insulin). I was on 80units of Lantus a day until I started on Victoza and was able to reduce my dose.
