    Too low to sleep on?

Hi Marzeater Anything at 4 or below is offically considered to be a hypo and recommended advice would be to treat it as such by taking about 15 grams of carbohydrate, waiting for 15 mins, testing again to see if back to normal and then eating a small amount of slow acting carb to keep things...

    Type 1 and insulin resistant?

Yes, I'm doing my very best and my last HbA1cs have a been 5.8, 5.6, 6.2. Trying to get back under 6 this time round. Doing what I can to protect any remaining beta cells. Just wondering how the porcine insulin is administered. Can you get it in prefilled pens like the Lantus? Thanks very much...

    Type 1 and insulin resistant?

Hi there, Wonder if anyone knows what's going on here...My lunchtime and b'fast insulin : carb ratios have doubled since March this year. Back then, I was a 1:8. In June this shifted to 1:6 and now, I seem to be a clear 1:4. Is this just going to carry on until I'm a 1:0??? I've only...

    Carb Counting - Quick Question!

Hi there, I'm pretty sure it's the net carb amount you want to count rather than the total. The net is usually the amount of carbohydrate minus the fibre which does not actually get digested. I think this is right! I'm sure someone will be along soon to confirm or otherwise! :)

    Re Diabetes UK

Interesting thread. Bit confused on the below, though: Might be worth clarifying if the BGs referred to here are HbA1C or every day readings from a meter. If your average day to day readings come out at say 6.2mmol/l, then your HbA1C would be 5.3. If your average BG readings day to day are...

Hypos in middle of night, should i adjust lantus dose?

Hi there, I think I might be tempted to do exactly what you say and decrease Lantus by maybe one unit to start with and see if that helps. If not, then maybe adjust by another 1 unit and see if there is a change (keeping an eye on your fasting levels) and so on. The same thing happened to me...

Going away to hot weather...any thing i need to know?

Hello! I guess it will depend on how active you are going to be. I find that in hot weather my basal insulin requirements go down a bit if I am active. During the recent heatwave, while I was walking to and from work every day (total 7 miles) I had to decrease my Lantus by a couple of units...

BS rise from Protein. How to counter it?

Hi there, Thought I'd pick some of you experienced low carbers' brains if that's OK... I have cut down on carbs a great deal and now am what you would classify a liberal low carber (90-130 grams per day). It's working out OK and I am ready to reduce a bit further. However, if I have a protein...

    Half unit pen

I have finally got round to making an appointment to get a prescription for cartridges for my half unit pen that I haven't used yet (am currently on pre-filled Novo Rapid pens). I am stupidly excited about it  (Yes, I should get out more) I get the scrip tomorrow and will be half-uniting...

    Life assurance.

Hi there, I have life insurance with Tesco. I got it before I was diagnosed and then I told them when I got Type 1. No problems at all and no increase in premium. They might be worth a try.

    Holidays tuesday morning HELP!!!!!!!

Hello Lahdida, Don't worry! I was just in Greece for a week in 37 degrees heat and had no problems with my meter or insulin. It worked out fine. For travelling, I doubled up on supplies and gave half to my husband and kept half myself just in case I lost my bag. That was quite reassuring, if...

    Severe denial

Hi Farang, Welcome to the forum. Glad to hear you are taking positive action...And your meds! You will get plenty of good advice and help on here (I am Type 1 so won't be much use). Just one question...You don't mention whether you have a blood glucose meter (unless I've missed something when...

    Pre diabetes?

Well, husband telephoned the clinic for his OGTT results today and he was told 4.9 and normal!!! :P I was a bit confused about the tests he had; they sent both his fasting and his 2 hours after the glucose drink tests away to the lab so I don't really know what the 4.9 actually represents. I...

    About Coffee

Very topical for me, this thread. I decided today to give up caffeine (except with my breakfast bolus followd by a brisk walk) as a cup of tea or coffee (with only a dash of milk) raises my blood sugar by about 2mml which can be very annoying.

    Borderline Diabetes

hi there, could you tell us a little bit more? how did your doc diagnose you as borderline? did he do tests and give you any indication of results? i'm going through the same thing with my husband (we think he's pre-diabetes). did you have a fasting blood glucose test? it is true that quite...
