Type 2 18mmol for over a year, I’m scared to go to drs…

Lee I have exactly the same story as you. Look at my signature for my initial results - controlled it extremely well and honestly, got cocky and complacent about it. I think because I knew what to do, I told myself I could always do it tomorrow. Terrible logic, in retrospect. It's been five...

Don't involve yourself in the blame game.

Coming back here after 5 years of failing to control my T2. It's hard not to play the blame game, but good to read everyone's posts. Initially when I was diagnosed I controlled it incredibly well - you can see from my signature. But my other problems in life, and particularly Covid, really...

Type 2s: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning? (very low chat level)

9 this morning. Spent the last few years failing to control it, ignoring it really. Time to knuckle down again. Hope things can get better from here

    Newcastle Diet

Thanks! I'll upload my BG results from my Libre every so often, as I think it'll be interesting for people to see. Sadly, with the distribution issues at the moment I don't think I'll be getting my next sensor for another couple of weeks so there'll be data gaps

    Newcastle Diet

Actually not so bad at all - I make them with 200ml water so they stay quite thick and shake-like. Still a bit grainy, but still quite drinkable. I feel OK on the glucose fluctuations - I guess highs of 9 aren't so bad in the grand scheme of things - and I'm coming down a lot faster from...

    Newcastle Diet

I like most of them so far. I really can't stand the Strawberry ones (so artificial tasting) and am yet to go for the Lemon Cheesecake or Chocolate Orange. They sent me a bunch of Irish Cream ones for free and I have to say I'm not a fan of those either! The biggest problem so far is boredom...

    Newcastle Diet

I don't actually, though have considered them. Any recommendations? I'm always a bit curious as to how they measure body fat

    Newcastle Diet

Kind of. The weight loss will be an added bonus as I am still around 3 stone above my target healthy weight. What I'm really hoping it will do is improve my insulin sensitivity to the point where I can reintroduce more carbs into my diet. Obviously the dream is to be able to return to the...

    Newcastle Diet

Hi @Mbaker - at the moment I'm spiking up to around 9.2 on average. They're fairly regular spikes so far, though my 'resting' BG levels are going down - into the high 3's at night.

    Getting off

That's the dream! My only note of scepticism is that I think the study used HbA1C as its metric - so I'm not sure how they determined that the beta cell function was restored. I've only just started my ND run, but I wear a Libre and will be very interested to see how this affects my BG spikes as...

    Newcastle Diet

Hi all, I've started my Newcastle Diet today armed with a ton of Exante shakes, and a bunch of multivitamins. I'm doing the methodology from the most recent Direct study - 4x shakes per day over 8-12 weeks totalling 800 calories. I've already 'reversed' my T2D through following a low-carb diet...

    Newcastle Diet - updated methodology?

Thanks! I knew I'd seen this site somewhere (couldn't forget that snappy logo) but I couldn't find it yesterday. Will take a look at that :) I'm a little skeptical of the results too I have to say, though clearly it works very well for some people. I think really what it comes down to is how...

    Newcastle Diet - updated methodology?

Hi everyone, I'm about to embark on the Newcastle Diet, but was wondering if anyone knows of any changes that have resulted from the Direct study results? e.g. in one of the BBC News article I read, the participant was referring to "4 shakes a day" rather than the "3 plus 200cal veggies" that...

    Libre delivery issues

Is anyone else having issues with getting their Libre sensors delivered? Their website talks about high demand and that orders might take 2 weeks to be fulfilled, but here I am 2 weeks later and my sensor has only just gone out for delivery. God knows how they think they will supply the NHS...

Type 1 Best beers for a level blood sugar?

Pure Blonde is the nicest low carb beer I've found (but it's Australian so expensive), but you can also get Skinnylager which shouldn't impact your levels too much. Personally when I go out I either drink spirits with zero-sugar mixers (no impact at all on BG levels) or dry wines like Pinots...

Fundamental Question: Do I have Diabetes?

We are not doctors and cannot diagnose you - but if your blood sugar is regularly going up past 8 after meals you are quite possibly diabetic. A normal, non-diabetic person generally will not go higher than that no matter what they eat. If you're already avoiding carby foods then your HbA1C...

How to talk to your doctors about food? What can we admit too?

This is a really good point, I do this too though I wasn't conscious of it. I always say "low carb" and then if they ask more I will explain that if you're taking the carbs out you need to replace it with fat. Once they get that any fat you ingest is basically burned up in the place of carbs...

    I did it!

Absolutely tremendous result @Goonergal ! Your doctor must have been stunned :) Massive congratulations to you!!

How to talk to your doctors about food? What can we admit too?

I talked openly about it in my first consult and regretted it as I was immediately dissuaded from following a low-carb diet. The nurse I see for my yearly checks is not exactly the consulting type and won't brook any deviation from Eatwell so I don't bother talking to her about it. However, with...

    Diabetic diets when eating out

It's more and more common - in Australia for instance a lot of places routinely provide 'low carb' options, especially burger joints. I was at Leon lunchtime today and they have started doing a range of bunless burgers - though they're calling them "Carbfree" which is total nonsense of course...
