Help please for BG levels in oldies & low carb/protein problems

If you have a CGM then I'd say the risk of you collapsing from an unexpected hypo is pretty low, especially as you still have hypo awareness. My hba1c last year after 2 bouts of covid was 58 and I was told that was fine. I didn't think it was, but just assumed the DSN was being positive...

    Hayfever

Can send mine high. I'm a grass pollen sufferer and June is a nightmare. I take a lot of antihistamines

HBA1c result given and not explained

They have put glucose monitors on non diabetics and seen spikes after eating certain foods (the glucose goddess on Instagram has a lot of info). Your figures after eating look in the normal range really.

G.P refusing to give me my insulin

I'm relieved you've found another surgery and they can get you sorted. I can't understand why your old GP practice would hold back something so critical as insulin - did they ever give you an explanation?

    New diagnosed

    It's shock - perfectly understandable!

Newly diagnosed, unsure of type yet

Hopefully they've given you the little needles? I tend to not over think it and just quickly shove the needle into the blobby bit at the side of my belly. I wasn't great with needles but you have so much else going on when first diagnosed that it really does become routine.

    low carb/keto and insulin ratio

@Paulaah I liked your post in sympathy rather than liking your health issues, but I found my body needed at least 100g of carbs a day. Any less and I was getting huge BG spikes almost like my body was expecting me to inject a certain amount of insulin irrespective of food intake. The trick for...

    Mental health vs physical health

I beat myself up even when the diabetic team are telling me it's ok! I can completely understand how easy it is to get obsessed about results.

    Mental health vs physical health

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-11848095/Justin-Webbs-son-Sam-speaks-battles-type-1-diabetes.html There's been quite a few posts on here recently which has had me thinking about whether we sometimes try and put our physical health (blood sugar's in range) above our mental health...

    Tell me it gets better..

I felt horrendous for about 3 months - my hba1c on diagnosis was over 140 so I'd probably been living with undiagnosed T1 for some time. I had a great consultant in those days who said I was basically going cold turkey from a sugar addiction. Obviously not an addiction in the sense that I was...

    Newly Diagnosed Type 1

I was diagnosed 6 years ago in my 40s. I was pretty resigned to the diagnosis to start with - my GP had insisted I must be type 2 and nearly killed me with that - so the correct diagnosis was a relief then. But the monotony and constantly feeling like you're getting it wrong does start to get...

    low carb/keto and insulin ratio

If it's jumping up after eating then there's a couple of things to do. If a meal is a bit more carb heavy then I take my insulin earlier - say 20 mins before eating (providing I'm not too low). I'd also query if she's really taking the right amount of insulin for that particular meal if it's...

G.P refusing to give me my insulin

Are you in the UK? Go to A&E if you are. They can give you insulin there and should help you

How old is your daughter? Hormones can cause very erratic insulin requirements at certain times of the month.

    Duration of action of insulin

I'm much the same with Novorapid - it's really annoying. I find I run high during the day at work but drop to hypo levels about 5-6 pm if I've injected for lunch. If I inject more for lunch the hypos are even bigger. It's definitely the Novorapid because I trialled a day without any carbs and...

    Tresiba and NovoRapid Advice Please

I take Tresiba and take full dose in the morning. My starting dose when I came off lantus was a bit low so I'd run with a dose for a week and then pop it up a notch if I was waking up too high. I had a load of issues with lantus but Tresiba has always been pretty stable with me overnight

Can deep tissue massage increase blood sugar levels?

I have the opposite and have to careful with hypos!

    Hgb A1C

I wonder how much of the concern about low hba1c results predates Libra? My best hba1c was when I was having cracking hypos so in that instance I get where they're coming from (& all improved on Tresiba) but with the Libra you know when you're falling / rising and can take preventative action

    Hi Guys

I think it's worth getting some help with how you manage your diabetes when you're ill. I caught a viral infection 4 weeks ago which I'm struggling to shift but monitoring my BG levels more often than normal means I do the insulin injections more often to stop the BG levels climbing. I've also...

Are the targets diabetes specialists set for us too modest?

I think they are aware of how relentless T1 is to manage and know how hard it is for many of us to get anywhere near 48. I still cannot stop my rapid midday spike - if I inject enough to get that under control the hypos from 5pm are horrendous. I'll never get near 48 with a body which behaves...
