    C peptide tests

You could go privately - expensive though. I found GPs weren't particularly keen on doing them, which I guess is cost related.

Type 1 - Losing weight on Insulin

I avoid too many carbs. It means you inject less fast acting so that risk of going low and needing to eat is less. If you're finding you're getting hypos on low carb then you're taking too much insulin I also try and make sure I've got sweets nearby for hypos so I can bring myself up quickly...

    Tresiba and nova rapid

I'm on that combo and it works well. Takes a few days for Tresiba to stabilise

Cold Remedies not suitable for diabetics...why?

I took two night nurse and didn't wake up with a hypo until the alarm went off. Thought I felt a bit out of it and groggy then tested my BG and it was 2.3 do perhaps that's why they're not advised. I swear the clocks going back are at fault for my morning hypos this week.

    Few questions on insulin pls.

@Clueso I was diagnosed in my 40s and I'm on Tresiba and Novorapid. I do a fair amount of exercise which also makes dosing more complicated. The first thing I learnt was there is no point in getting too stressed about numbers going up after eating. Our bodies don't process insulin at the same...

How to treat weak nervous system after hyperglycemia

I've hit high levels and plummeted - can feel a bit rough for a while but that's it.

Vitamin D and magnesium. I sometimes take C during winter and B12 if I'm feeling a bit bleugh

    Booster jag

Moderna this morning - all my others were Pfizer. Sore arm and I felt shattered this afternoon but otherwise ok. OH had positive covid tests for 10 days in Feb after we celebrated family birthdays with a 6yo who tested positive before going back to school after half term. He was really poorly...

    Type 2 to LADA?

T1 here - a bounce in BG after exercise can be common. Did they say how long until your blood tests come back? Until then staying on low carb is the safest way forward.

    Diabetes and working

Do you think your background insulin is too high or are you just not getting enough food into you? I find cereal bars essential when I'm doing my outdoor work to keep my BG stable and I barely take any novorapid for them - the exercise uses up the sugar

    Bariatric Surgery and T1D

I've been running low all day today. No reason why that I'm aware of - but I had a day last week where I might as well have injected water instead of insulin for all the good it did. I thought when my BG hit 17 I must be coming down with something but apparently not. Annoyingly I think it's...

    Healthy eating

I can't either. Plus if I exercise a few hours after eating I drop like a stone if I've got insulin on board. I'm not too bad with carbs for breakfast but lunch needs to be low carb

    Hospital appointments stopped since Covid

Stoke Mandeville and I think they've forgotten I exist. Last face to face was 2019 and I haven't even been scheduled for a call for 14 months. Persuaded GP to run some bloods so I could at least know my hba1c

    It's hard...

I had nausea with larger doses of novorapid in the early days (large doses for me are about 3 units). I used to take it in 2 shots about 30 mins apart which helped. 5 years down the line I don't notice any nausea any longer so hopefully that means the body adjusts. Yes it's hard. On a day where...

    Bad Hay fever

Covid presented just like hayfever for me - except it was a wet February and anti histamine did nothing

The honeymoon is over. Now what?

I was diagnosed at 43 and needed insulin pretty much straight away. I've never had any more problem with weight gain than I had before diagnosis. I would say it's worth getting your insulin requirements sorted first and then seeing if you also have T2 type issues which would need Metformin on top

    Joint Pain

I was bad on lantus although Dr refused to believe that was the issue. I insisted on a change to Tresiba and all muscle pains stopped within the week

    Type 1 diagnosis changing

I carried on producing some insulin for at least 4 years from a c-peptide test (diagnosed in 40s) Rapid weight loss is also a clue for T1. Saying type 1.5 are usually skinny depends on your starting weight. I lost a stone but I was just 8.5 to start with

    Unexpected Diagnosis

Credit to your medical practice for getting you over to A&E rather than automatically assuming you're T2 because of your age. I definitely wouldn't binge on anything sweet or especially high carb (pizza) before tomorrow. Let us know how you get on

Change in Age of T1 Diagnosis in Recent Decades

Also I do wonder if there is a genetic susceptibility which is only really coming to light as general life expectancy improves. After all it's only 100 years since insulin was first extracted and prior to then T1 was a death sentence so genes weren't being passed on. My blood sample...
