    Trip To South Africa

Hi. I've ordered a Frio wallet. They really do get excellent reviews. I'd never heard of them. I don't use a pump but I'm on MDI and use the Accuchek Aviva Expert. D'you think I should take a back up meter, or am I being paranoid? I'll take spare pens, as you suggested, just in case. Sod's law...

Thanks, Luke. That's helpful. I'll check out the Frio packs.

    Trip To South Africa

I'm going to South Africa next spring to visit my brother and his wife. (I like to start planning things early!) I'll be travelling from Heathrow to Johannesburg, which is I think an 8 hour flight and then on to Port Elizabeth. I'll probably stay for two weeks and will be travelling on my own...

Au secours! I'm frustrated to the max!

Hi te kalhau I think the only predictable thing about diabetes is its unpredictability. I've often thought you could follow exactly the same eating, exercising and injecting pattern two days in a row and one day would be OK and the other wouldn't. Have you tried using one of the 'smart' BG...

"Best" things doctors have said to you

To Dazza1984 I don't understand. If I had an itchy eye that I thought seemed infected, I would go and see my GP, not the optician!

Please help!! Waitrose refuse to stock 'LivLife Low Carb Bread'

Apologies if someone has already posted this, but Ocado is stocking this bread. Just ordered some as I'm keen to try it.

Anyone know if there's an equivalent for the Humapen?

    HbA1c - a good result!

Yeah that's it. In a subject that you hate and bores you silly. That was physics for me!

    HbA1c - a good result!

I was looking forward to getting this latest one of mine. First time ever! You'd have to be diabetic to 'get' this wouldn't you? Good luck with yours.

    HbA1c - a good result!

I did a quick look and it seems the dsn is the only way to get one. Be nice then!

    HbA1c - a good result!

Could be £5.99 well spent if you can't get your mits on an Expert. Wouldn't your DSN or GP get you one?

    HbA1c - a good result!

I checked out RapidCalc and thought it was good. It's available from the iTunes Store for £5.99. It's similar to the Expert software but I think the reports are better. I used both in parallel for a while to check the results. Bit sad, I know.

    HbA1c - a good result!

It's a sort of self perpetuating thing too I find. Once my averages are down I want to keep them down. And when I get one of those 'where on earth did that come from?' BG results my first reaction now is 'oh no! My averages!' But it's not easy is it?

    HbA1c - a good result!

Can you get hold of the Expert again? I think I should be on commission for the number of times I've recommended it! But what's not to like? I use it with MyFitnessPal for the carb counting. It just makes things so much easier and for me takes away the guesswork.

How come, if you were on a pump?

I started using the Expert at the end of May. So three and a half months.

    HbA1c - a good result!

This morning I received my latest HbA1c result and for once it was good news. It's down from a shameful 84 to a respectable 46. In percentage terms tests from 9.8 to 6.4. Yay! So I am well pleased! I just wanted to say two things. Firstly, a big 'thank you' to everyone on this forum who has...

Curious! How and what do you all take to treat your hypos?

Probably a routine check because of the pancreatitis. Unless she has super special powers. But my experience of nurses would make me doubt that very much.... I think I saw a TV program some time ago where dogs were able to detect low BG. Unfortunately my golden retriever can't, or he's not...

    Sore Fingers!

That's a good tip about the palm of the hand. I'd never thought of that. Since I've been using the Accuchek Fastclix my fingers don't complain nearly so much. I probably test 6-8 times a day.
