Sore Fingers!

Do you guys get this as well?

I've started doing the LCHF diet and have decided to test my blood before each meal and two hours after to make sure that I can see exactly what my body does to each food type. That means six finger-stabs each day and that leads to sore fingers. I'm trying to spread the love between all my fingers and picking different areas on each finger, but they're all suffering. Does anyone test on any other part of their body? I've seen some chat about testing on toes, but am not sure I fancy that.

I can be a big girl and learn to put up with it, but just wondered if anyone has found another suitable site.

Thanks all!

Hi and welcome ..you could try the palm of the hand i do this some times when i want to give my fingers a rest hope this helps

Thank you! I hadn't thought of that - I'll give it a go. I take it that you should use the heel of your hand at the base of the thumb?

I can't wait until I know everything about every food and then I won't have to do this. Yes, I know that's not going to happen, but I can dream! ;)

That's a good tip about the palm of the hand. I'd never thought of that. Since I've been using the Accuchek Fastclix my fingers don't complain nearly so much. I probably test 6-8 times a day.

I use all my fingers in turn, using the side of the finger not the tip. I do a jab in one side & next time the other side of the same finger, by the time I've been through all of them the first one is ok to start again. Be sure not to use the soft pad bit at the top, that would make them really sore

Also change your lancet if it gets a bit blunt after several uses, if you are reusing it.

Make sure you are using the correct tip on your lancing device. If you have the "alternative site" one on it the lancet will go in too deep and hurt.

I do the side of each finger on one hand, the second hand usually recovered by the time it comes round again. I got an adapter that allows you to use anywhere on your palms or forearm, although I've not used it yet. I wouldn't recommend your feet, I'm concerned it may have a negative affect in years to come. I think tho we just unfortunately just have to accept their going to be sore at times. I went into DKA last month were they checked my levels every hour in the hospital for 3days!! My fingers were ruined at the time but they recovered now.

Thanks all - that's really helpful. I've started with Poohtiggy's advice with each side of each finger in turn and it's really made a difference. I do feel a bit stupid not to have thought of that myself, though! Thanks for that -Poohtiggy.

My diabetic nurse suggested I only use each lancet twice so it doesn't blunt. Silly question, but the lancets she gave me when she gave me the meter were great, but the ones I get on prescription seem to be longer. I've adjusted the dial so that they only go in by the minimum amount, but does anyone know if there are "shorter" ones out there? I just thought that might help. Maybe I'm just a delicate flower!

Jenhop - yes, I agree, I didn't really want to use toes - apart from not wanting to walk around on sore toes, I was worried about the damage risk. They checked your levels every hour for three days??!! You must have had fingers like sieves! Poor you.

Never feel stupid for not knowing the solution to anything concerned with diabetese, you never had it before so there are bound to be things you don't know, asking questions is the way we all learn how to deal with it

The multiclix is quite a gentle Lancet type but they can only be used by the accu chek finger pricker whatsit but if you get an accu chek meter it should come with the whatsit then you can use this with your meter .
