    What does it mean?

I had similar readings like yours when I got back on track again in May. Only now, after 6-7 weeks of low carb, am I seeing results around 6, and my fbg is variable, but a bit higher. I’m not on any meds, but from what I understand, metformin helps a bit with the dawn phenomenon (so your fasting...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

8.7 - and yes, the reason for that is the same as why I'm posting this at the crack of dawn on a Saturday. My neighbors decided to throw a party, and I kept being woken up by the noise. At 5, I threw in the towel, and started tidying up. Took me an hour to remember to get fbg. They've stopped...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.1 fbg this morning, which is a victory for me. I had a wake-up call in May, when I woke up in the middle of the night feeling awful, and measured my bgl to 24! I started making changes, got a new meter in early June as my previous one was running out of batteries, and got another Contour Next...

T2, need to get back to the grind

Yes, these really heavy things hit about the same time we usually get our diagnosis. My birthday's this month, and I'll be the same age as my sister was when she passed. As @Outlier says, eating our emotions is better than turning to harder stuff, but to lose the progress I had is such a bummer...

T2, need to get back to the grind

Thank you for your condolences. I must admit, it was very hard, and I have not taken care of myself as I should. However, I managed to get my T2 under control when diagnosed, so I am determined to do so again. I might not be able to do a lot of exercise until I get my lungs (don't know whether...

T2, need to get back to the grind

Hi, I used to have good control of my blood sugar and HbA1c, but in the last 3 years I've been awful at it. It started when I was caring for my sister during her terminal illness (it was very difficult to eat low carb when niblings wouldn't eat any vegetable but cucumber, and sitting by a...

THIS IS MY FIRST POST BUT IT'S GOING TO BE A LONG ONE.......

Yeah, solely by diet and exercise. Last hbA1c was 5.2%, or 33.3.

THIS IS MY FIRST POST BUT IT'S GOING TO BE A LONG ONE.......

Good work! When it comes to heartburn, I had that constantly from when I had my gallbladder out in 2010. I was advised to eat a low fat diet because of it, but I thought the hburn was post-op complication, and I'd just have to live with it. Antacids in every purse, no eating after 18:30! After...

Bariatric Surgery for T2's - Gastric Bypass

There was an article in my local newspaper earlier this week (not in English, sorry) about how prospective patients for gastric bypass were hiding any mental health issues they had, because they were afraid they' be refused the surgery. This was a follow up article to a previous one on how...

    Type 2 Can you?

The husband of a colleague developed T1 at 37, so at 27 it is a definite possibility.

    Type 2.....ideas would be appreciated

I have been lucky enough that my bg can stand me eating two rugsprø - very thin rye crispbreads with 6 gr carbs each - for lunch. I put a slice of butter (using a Skandinavian cheese slicer to get even slices) and either lunch meat or cheese slices on them. I vary the butter with a heap of...

    Testing

Me too! I have boxes and boxes of Tums everywhere, because I had such problems after my gallbladder surgery. Couldn't eat after 6:30pm and everything. Then went low carb in January, and no more Tums!

Low amylase count - causes and consequences?

I got the results of my blood tests from my last doctor's visit (my doctor was really happy with my weight loss (20%), my usual fasting and post-prandial BGs (5-5.5mmol and 5.5-6.5mmol respectively), and general state of well-being.) In addition to the regular HbA1c, he said he'd order a blood...

Good job! Keep doing what you're doing.

    Feeling ill

Have you checked your blood glucose levels? Are you on insulin? It can be false hypos, where the body thinks its blood sugar levels are too low because it's so used to high ones, or the dreaded carb flu. In either of those cases it's best to power thru, but if you really feel unwell, and your...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Well done, @Polgara! I didn't think I had lost any weight this week - carb creep has been sneaking in. However, I just weighed myself, and 69.2 kg, down from 69.9 kg last week, a loss of 0.7 kg. 18.5 kg lost since Christmas, and ca 5 kg to go!

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

I moved on Tuesday, and only just unpacked my scales. Was sure I had gained or remained steady at 71.1 kg even with the heavy lifting, since diet has been erratic due to eating out a lot more than usual. However, it seems I've broken the 70 barrier, and weighed in at 69.9 kg! That's 17.8 kg lost...

    can i have these?

I do full-fat greek yogurt with some berries for my evening snack. For desperate times I put about half a teaspoon of a Walden Farms Near Zero Chocolate (or Caramel) Syrup in it and stir - giving it a chocolate pudding flavor and consistency. Those syrups are near carb-free - they do contain...

Whipple surgery and pancreatic cancer - info?

Surgery went well, and my relative is now awake. I guess the aftereffects of surgery are for the future, but I must admit I was sooo scared they'd start surgery, discover the cancer had spread, and just close up and recommend palliative care. Now we have a fighting chance!

Whipple surgery and pancreatic cancer - info?

Thank you very much for your replies, @Pipp and @Starburst02 .It especially cheered me to hear that pancreatic cancer can be survived - all the statistics are very disheartening. We hope the cancer was caught early enough - my relative got sick really rapidly because the tumor impinged on the...
