Whipple surgery and pancreatic cancer - info?

A close family member has just gotten the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, and will have the Whipple surgery this week if all goes well. I know that there are people here in T3c that have had that surgery, and I would be grateful if you could share your experiences, and if you have advice for...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Weighing has been a bit haphazard lately as a family member has gotten seriously sick, necessitating several trips here and there to follow up. I weighed myself at 73.2 kg at one point, and on Monday I was at 72.8 kg - 14.9 kg down since Christmas. Only 9 kg to go. Let's hope this crisis...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Yohoo! 74.4kg! I went below 75, and broke my plateau. I'm doing the shimmy dance in my seat as I type. So, that's 13.3kgs down, 10.4 to go!

    What causes complications?

I also question what "good control" means. Someone close to me with T2 had a check-up recently, and got praise for a 7,4% HbA1c. When I reacted by asking "And will the next goal be to get it under 6%?" they got all huffy and said that their doctor was fine as long as it was under 7.5% :wideyed...

    Type 2 Life

I'm feeling a bit under the weather right now. I ate breakfast and lunch as usual, but post lunch I scarfed down both a small bag of pork scratching and a Nature Valley protein bar. Unfortunately I've been snacking a lot lately. I took a nap, and when I woke up I felt nauseous, which hasn't...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Ooops, up 0.5 kg to 75.7. Not surprising, as I have been stressing like heck these past two weeks, eating far too many snacks and too little at proper meals. May won't get much better from here on out, so any big changes are out, but come June, I'll have time to deal with weight loss again.

Type 2 Can anyone answer this?

Losing 20 kg in two months is unrealistic. I weighed slightly more than you on diagnosis, and am slightly shorter than you. My doctor said that losing 10% of my body weight was a good goal, which amounted to just under 9 kgs. I had an appointment 10 weeks later, but he didn't expect me to have...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

Today's weight is 75.2kg, down 0.7kg since last Friday. That makes an even 12.5kg lost since Christmas, and I am more than halfway. I am aiming for 64kg (at 5'3", that would bring my bmi to 25.)

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

I plateaued for a while there at 77.6 kg, which is what I weighed at my doctor's appointment 2 weeks ago. I had figured I would, as that weight was my standard weight for a long time, and I kind of figured that my easy weight loss so far was my body being eager to get to its preferred weight...

    Type 2 Help n hi

I am not on insulin, so I can't give you advice on that. Do you have high numbers despite eating low carb, or do you eat carbs? In the latter case, perhaps you could try cutting them and see what your numbers are. In the former, I would try for a dr's appointment - getting high bg readings...

    10 weeks post-diagnosis I have...

I must admit I am pretty chuffed about myself. Now it's all about continuing. I figure I have 40 years ahead of me with diabetes.

    Rare test, shock result!

You have absolutely NOT been a fool, cineman. It is the refusal of so many health care providers to acknowledge that diabetes type 2 is all about being unable to handle carbohydrates that makes THEM the fools. I think you are very wise to work on trying to lower your bg levels, and doing so...

    10 weeks post-diagnosis I have...

...radically changed the way I eat. I now eat moderate low carb, having cut out potatoes, pasta, rice and bread, but not crispbreads, yogurt, and milk. The salty, savory snacks I love have been banished, except for one 40 gr packet of crisps a week. I do some pork crackling if I get absolutely...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

I'm down to 78.5 kg, so down 0.4 kg this week. Haven't been able to walk anywhere this week because of weather - very irritating. I've also been having cravings because of time of the month, though I've mainly managed to resist.

BG much improved already but feel exhausted

Did your doctor check your vitamin D levels? If they are low, as they often are in those of us living in non-sunny countries, that may contribute to your tiredness. Especially now in the spring, before we get sun on our skin again, and we have depleted what we got last summer. I was at 17 when...

    need advice

I am hardly an expert, but if you have started modifying your diet (cutting down on things that drive blood glucose up) you may have had a false hypo? If your body is used to bg levels in the double digits, it may think it is experiencing hypoglycemia (below 3.7 mmol) when in reality, you are...

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

I lost 0.5kg, from 79.4 kg to 78.9 kg, which is exactly on target. After my plateau during my trip to Paris, I am now back on track. Yay! 8.8 kg lost so far this year, and I have officially lost the 10% my doctor recommended. Now for the next 10%.

Poor 6 Monthly Results & Very Worried

I guess the answer would be, what does your meter say? Do you go to bed immediately after eating so that you don't get to check 1hr after? How about in the middle of the nigh? With medication, I understand that you sometimes need to check at inconvenient times to avoid lows, but once to check...
