I'm away from home. Feeling super dizzy and just vomited. My glucose is 21.5 and I need to take a plane in a few hours. How to lower it? I'm drinking water, had extra glucophage but still very high. Any advices?
Thanks

I realise that you're away from home, is there no way you can get medical assistance?

What med's are you on?

Oh dont know it can be dangerous to be in the air if you become more ill , if you have fever maybe get it down with some aspirine , dont Think there is anyway to get blood glucose down that fast . Remember to drink a lot and maybe you can get a new ticket if you are insured and contact a doctor right now

Looks like she's gone off line. Let's hope this turns out OK.

I'm in Thailand now and waiting to board a flight to China, can't get to a hospital now. My head is spinning and I've drank as much water as possible. I'm just very frightened, this is a new experience to me with diabetes.

So it's just after 16:00 where you are ? Has your blood glucose gone up suddenly since lunch? What have you eaten?

I had eggs for breakfast around 10am and coffee. Nothing after since I've have been vomiting. Just drink water and pee or vomit....it's miserable. Just took a read and it came down to 15.3. I'm still dizzy but no more vomiting.

I know that it's easier said than done, but whilst you're travelling, try to stay away from carbohydrate rich foods like rice, pasta, potato and bread (OK I know that doesn't leave you much choice on an airplane !!).

I assume you're at the airport and checked in? Will you be able to get medical assistance when you reach China?

Yes, I will check tomorrow morning with a doctor and if needed come back to Thailand where doctors are more reliable. I'm about to board now. I'm avoiding bread and other carbs as much as possible. Will definitely not eat the bad airplane noodles.

Good luck !! Let us know how it goes.

the good thing about being type 2 is that usually your numbers will not get dangerously high and metformin is not doing anything dangerously

except that some actually do vomit because of the metformin...

I'm glad you got medical assistance. Hope you get better fast so that you can enjoy your trip.

Pleased your ok.
Type2s can still suffer ketoacidosis (due to continuous high bgs).
Normally not as aggressive as type1 spikes.
Well done for getting in touch. :)

Pleased you are getting medical assistance .. hope your better soon
