Splitting Lantus to stop dawn phenomenon

I have "feet on the floor" as well, and while it's annoying I feel lucky that the blood sugar rises after I get up rather than before because it's easier to work around. Here's what I do to fix it. I inject insulin as soon as I wake up and go to make breakfast. Every day I eat the same thing...

    Calvin & Hobbes

Wonderful. Going to bed to read the last half of "There's treasure everywhere" now. Feeling very inspired :)

    Help and opinions?

Hi there, don't worry it gets better. The first few months are the worst. I also dropped my HbA1c quickly, from 91 at diagnosis in February to 41 three months later. The result was awful, I got treatment-induced neuropathy (which is very unusual, it requires a special kind of unlucky) where I...

Sick days and high blood sugar

What an interesting idea to test, unfortunately I used up all my Lantus. And thanks for the well-wishes, hope you get better too. It's just that time of the year. You're right, you need to be careful. I was diagnosed with DKA and it almost killed me. Funny enough I was drinking large amounts...

    Rice

Cauliflower rice is a great low carb alternative with just 5g of carbs per 100g. Cheap and easy to make. You could mix it in with normal rice depending on what carb count you were after.

Sick days and high blood sugar

Thanks a lot for the replies. I'll definitely try to get sick less because it truly sucks, especially with diabetes ;) I'll stick with the fast-acting insulin, and ask my doctor about it next time I see her. Like you said, adjusting basal would probably be easier if you were on something...

Sick days and high blood sugar

Hi all, I just got a cold and woke up to a fabulous 14 mmol/l. I've been sick a few times since I got diabetes, and every time I've injected an extra 10-15u of NovoRapid a day to control blood sugar. I wake up sky high, and then spend half the day getting back into range. The insulin resistance...

    Hi all

Hi Peter, when I was diagnosed six months ago I had severe needle phobia. It was to the point where I couldn't look at a blood test without feeling like I would pass out and when they sent me home from the hospital with the insulin pens I was terrified. Now it doesn't bother me the slightest. I...

    Hair loss in T1

Don't worry it should be fine. I was diagnosed T1 four months ago with very high blood sugars and I also lost tons of hair. After I normalized my blood sugars it stopped, but it took a couple of months for the body to adjust. It's not very nice, but in the end of the day it's just hair and it...

    Type 2 Blood sugar levels

I was curious about this too so I've been testing my boyfriend from time to time. He has normal fasting blood glucose and after most meals his values stays within the 6 range so I'd say he's non-diabetic. One night though after he had a large bowl of pasta, garlic bread and a bag of candy...

    Losing too much weight

I'm in the same boat as you, after going low carb a few months ago I lost 5 kg and I'm trying really hard to keep the weight on. If you don't mind saturated fats double cream is an easy way to get some extra calories into your diet. The stuff I use has 320 calories per 100 ml and I pour generous...

    Tingling in hands and feet

Thanks @Caprock94 for the welcome. I'm happy to hear it's not just me and I also hope things will be fine for us. @NaijaChick I get the pins and needles when I have a hypo, but I also get them when the blood sugars have been normal for hours. Like today for example, I woke up at 7am to 4.5...

    Tingling in hands and feet

Hi guys, First off thanks for a great forum I've been lurking around for a while and found lots of good information here. I was diagnosed with T1 four months ago after I ended up in the hospital with DKA and an HbA1c of 91. I read Bernsteins book and went on a low carb diet a few weeks in...
