    HbA1c normal

Hi Becky The low carb diet is both easy and hard, I'm not craving foods but just miss the idea of them and the social aspect. I have been mourning what I can no longer eat and drink (if I'm going to stay off meds). I am on meds for life for thyroid disease. I have had large parts of my life on...

    Diagnosed 2 months ago

Hi Jojo, it has been a really bad year hasn't it! I think too many carbs in lockdown were my downfall! I really didn't realise the starches were so harmful. I'm doing a low carb diet now and eating loads of tomatoes in particular. Your comments about green veg made me laugh, I gagged after...

    HbA1c normal

Wow Becky, you sound like me from your post! I'm a Becky too. I'm newer to this than you. I have been monitoring what I eat and my blood glucose and know that my results are in a non diabetic range now too (my first HbA1c was 78 and I'm due a blood test in a few weeks. I also was taking...

Controlling with low carb - GP /nurse unimpressed

There are so many mixed messages out there for people new to diabetes and if they are lucky they will find this forum. I so want the low carb diet to work for me long term and feel that I will be able to do this. To self heal with food rather than disguise what is going on with medication seems...

    Low Carb spikes and lows

Goonergal, thanks so much for your reply. I will read Angela Stanton's work. An initial internet search brought up the successes with children with epilepsy. Indeed I was on Epilim for a year when I was in my late twenties, it was a drug that caused me to have lots of infections weirdly. I've...

Newly Diagnosed - New Question .......

I sympathise completely. I don't know what you have tried for your back but would recommend physio lead pilates. I've had success with low carb so far but still early days. I tried Metformin for a week and felt bad on it and stopped. It can take a couple of weeks to get used to it. I already...

Controlling with low carb - GP /nurse unimpressed

Wow, you are fortunate to have such a DN, it is reassuring to hear. It is all harder over the phone too. Maybe we'll have a face-to-face one day. it is quite emotional getting to grips with the changes too.

    Low Carb spikes and lows

Thanks so much for mentioning this. If I managed to get an outcome like this it would be a massive bonus. The migraines have been a long standing very unpleasant problem (I'm all set up to have nerve blocking injections in the back of my head if and when I get another bad patch). I've heard that...

Hi Rose, thanks for the message of support. Wise words indeed. Thank you

Controlling with low carb - GP /nurse unimpressed

Guys thanks so much for your comments and encouragement. There is a lot to come to terms with, however I do realise that I am lucky as it is all going well. My family keep "helpfully" saying that I should eat carbs or that I will be able to soon (arghhhh). It means so much to be understood. Thanks

Controlling with low carb - GP /nurse unimpressed

Following a recent T2DM diagnosis my BG levels fell rapidly and are in the range for a normal person now. Metformin made me feel dreadful and I stopped it after 6 days. My BG was in a normal range by then. Rather than showing any interest in my low carb diet, my nurse and GP seem disinterested...

TV : ‘Lose a stone in 21 days’

Agree completely, I am a fan of Michael Mosley and have the 8 week blood sugar diet book and recipe book. It was as if the programme ignored the relationship between carbs and blood glucose. There were some bad reviews in the press too.

Thanks for the link, my urge to drink water had dropped significantly. I will fill up my bottle!

    Low Carb spikes and lows

Thanks for your comments, you've made me smile and laugh out loud. That's going some as I've had a real downer of a day (not helped by receiving a letter threatening a court summons). Thanks so much.

    Low Carb spikes and lows

Thanks for the explanation, it is really helpful. Migraines are unfortunately something I have to live with (or hide in a dark room with) and often if something else is awry then it is enough to trigger a migraine.

    Low Carb spikes and lows

I started on Metformin and it made me feel dreadful (nausea, metallic taste, struggling to eat anything) . I stopped after 6 days and my BG was in a normal range by then.

    Low Carb spikes and lows

I am newly diagnosed and on a low carb diet. It is now apparent that two hours after eating dhal my BG spikes to over 10 mmol/l (this has happened twice now) and I should avoid in future. There is so much evidence that suggests it should be the opposite, it seems bad luck that my body is...

Struggling, why am I doing this?

I feel your pain. Little in life is fair really. You aren't alone. I've been having similar thoughts. I have really blurry vision still and am fed up. I am controlling with diet and have been lucky that my BG came down to a good level quickly. However, if I eat or drink the wrong thing it will...
