I don’t think just carrying mini eggs is enough, if you have another hypo you need to treat with fast acting carbs first such as glucose tablets. Then retest 15 minutes later and if it’s above 4, have some of the mini eggs then. The fat in chocolate slows the absorption so it won’t work fast...
This is how annual reviews work at my GP too, but with a technician not a nurse. They check your feet, weigh you, take blood, and that's the review complete. You only speak to someone about diabetes if they decide to summon you for a telling off from the nurse based on your blood results.
I get people to reassure me, take beta blockers, go swimming (started that recently and it’s really helping), do breathing in and out slowly, try to distract myself, stuff like that. Have also had some cbt and try and use some of the techniques from that too.
It varies, i don’t low carb as feel better with carbs, i tend to have a piece of toast with some protein like egg, ham, pate or cheese, and a coffee. I get regular whole meal hovis which is 15g carbs a slice, and a couple for the coffee.
Your breakfast is mostly sugar. Orange juice is used to treat hypos as it raises blood sugar fast, and cinnamon Graham’s are 75% carbs too. If you had less sugar and add a bit of protein you might get smoother blood sugars
Mine looks similar to yours, when I’ve tried using the custom request field below I’ve entered eg accuchek test strips x 200 - ordering early as going on holiday and the prescription hasn’t been issued, and a note has appeared in my record saying drugs declined.
How are people managing to order early? I can only order 28 days after the last prescription, and have 28 days worth prescribed. Most of my prescriptions I started on the day I got the first prescription so I rarely have any spare, more often run out before the next prescription is ready. My...
What is your weight and exercise regime like? Improvements to these can really help reduce insulin resistance, without the side effects of medications.
You can take the split bolus with the meal before the test, you just can’t start the basal test until the previous meal and insulin have finished working, so at least four hours after last bolus insulin.
No meter will give the same result with multiple tests every time, even if you use the same drop of blood it can vary as they aren’t perfectly accurate.
It’s 22Feb-22May that you swim 22 miles. JDRF do one similar also. So there’s time to build up swimming distance first. I did my first mile within one session today. Have been going swimming for a month or two.
Is anyone thinking of doing it or has done it in the past? I’m considering signing up but not sure if I’d manage it... 22 miles is a long way to swim in 12 weeks.
I would have subtracted the amount for the hypo, so the first 15g for me i wouldn’t have bolused for. If you get carb counting perfect then your blood sugar after the meal will go back to the level it was before you took the insulin. You were hypo so it put you back to hypo level.
