    Symptoms of T2 diabetes

My initial hb1ac was 106 and I'd no systems of diabetes (and still don't).

Please help me find a cold breakfast

My go-to breakfast at the moment is Greek yoghurt (sometimes the low fat Skyr one), blueberries, a spoonful of mixed seeds and a teaspoon of milled chia seeds.

    Low carb diet

I've been low-carb (usually in the 50 to 100g range per day) for about a month now and during that time have lost approximately 4.5kg in weight. It is worth bearing in mind though that the reason I went low-carb was to reduce my blood sugar levels (and it's working), and the reason for the...

    Another Newbie

I've also tried the konjac noodles and didn't like them either. The best option I've had suggested so far as a side with Chinese food etc. is beansprouts. I've also tried cauliflower rice which isn't bad (cauliflower mash is better).

    Another Newbie

I've had the Libre2 on for nearly a week now and the results do appear to have stabilised and I've not seen any of the very low readings that were sometimes happening (especially through the night) in the first couple of days. By default it looks like the Libre2 treats anything between 3.9 and...

All very high carb so for type 2 diabetes they are not great.

    Another Newbie

I'm not sure if I'll continue with the Libre2 or not as I'm not sure it's telling me anything that I'd use to change what I'm doing, although it is nice having the extra information. Still thinking about it at the moment.

    Weekly weigh in - Fridays

12st 12 now (BMI 26.6) which is the lightest I've been for maybe 30 years. The downside is that I've no clothes that fit so had to go shopping this morning. It was nice buying jeans with a 32 waist though (especially as 10 years ago, at my peak weight, I was buying 44's!).

    Newly Diagnosed

The healthy eating advice, which I followed for the first week after diagnosis, pushed my blood sugar levels up. I've had much better advice from here, especially on low-carb.

Group Travel with diet controlled Type 2 Diabetes

Cheers. It's a decent hotel so I'm hoping it'll be ok - but I will check and I'll also see how my blood sugar reacts as I'm trialing a Libre 2 at the moment.

    Newly Diagnosed

My diabetes nurse was quite disparaging about home testing and suggested I only do it maybe once a week. She did also give me eating advice that added up to taking on lots of carbs though!

    Short-term fast energy from carbs

Thanks for the tip. I've been pondering the same question myself so have just ordered a copy.

What hills are you doing on your Monday trip?

    Metformin dose

I was diagnosed with a similar hb1ac (106 in my case) about a month ago and also put on metformin - although in my case only 2 x 500mg per day. Not sure if my BMI was a factor (it was 28 at that time, about 26.5 now) but that does seem quite a high dose you're on (although I'm no expert!)...

Group Travel with diet controlled Type 2 Diabetes

I've got a residential work conference coming up in a couple of weeks and that'll be the first since being diagnosed a month ago. I'm expecting the hotel breakfast while be fine (sausage, bacon and eggs) but not so sure about the lunch and evening meals but it's only a couple of days so I'm sure...

    Another Newbie

The Libre 2 seems to be giving more reasonable readings now although I still think they're a bit low compared to what I get from manual testing. Yesterday ranged between about 5 and 8 throughout the day - compared to the 3 finger prick tests I did which were 5.7, 6.9 and 7.9. Today so far is...

    Another Newbie

Last night it was under-reading badly so pre-dinner it was at something like 3.9 then went up to about 5.9 an hour so later before then dropping back to under 4 and then stayed there until about 5am. So definitely nonsense! I've just checked the Libre again there and it's now giving a reading...

    Another Newbie

I fitted it (which was pretty straightforward) yesterday morning. The first time I checked (after the recommended hour) it roughly matched what I'd expected from a finger prick test (7.2), but dropped continually from there and by 5pm or so it was reporting 3.4. It stayed low right through to...

    Another Newbie

Indeed. Since my diagnosis I've stopped drinking beer but have had the occasional glass or two of red wine (which according to the tracker I'm using seems to be about 4 or 5g of carbs a glass), and the occasional whisky (which is zero carb) and if there has been any effect on my blood sugar...

    Libre2 Initial Accuracy

After reporting low levels (between 3 and 4) right through the night it's started to gradually climb from about 5am and is now reporting around the 7.5 to 8 range - which is inline with the 7.9 reading I got from a finger jab test earlier this morning. So hopefully that might mean it's working...
