    Confused

Does it give you the number of ketones? 0.5-1 isn’t something to worry about but 2+ certainly is alongside high BG. I’m not aware of a test strip that tests both glucose & ketones, usually you have separate test strips. But I could be wrong. Given the food you’ve listed is about 80g carbs I...

    Supply of needles etc.

They don’t seem groundless given Urbanracers experience above. I believe there is a risk of infection every time you pierce, cut, scrape or graze your skin but generally our bodies can deal with minor bacterial interactions. Plus there is no certainty that used needles are being kept in a...

    Supply of needles etc.

My pharmacist mentioned a shortage of GlucoRX needles but in the context of switching me over to VeriFine. Turns out I find the new needles better. I very occasionally reuse needles, like if I know I’ll need a correction in 2hrs but still purge/prime the needle. Also started putting the small...

    Timings on Diabetic Driving Licences

I got mine back in a week not too long ago. The post office advised it was an 8 week wait so very please to have it back so quick. Having said that my son sent off his provisional a month ago & it’s still not back.

Time to split or change basal?

Thanks for your thoughts, I’ve got a call in to the nurse but it might take a couple of days to get back to me. I did have the 2nd covid jab on 5th May, didn’t really notice an impact but maybe it’s knocked things just a bit out of whack. I’ll ask the nurse about maybe moving my basal to the...

Time to split or change basal?

Yeh it’s something I’ve noticed before but wasn’t too concerned because I was rising from about 6 to 8, I’d take my morning basal and I’d drop back down again. The rise was very easy to spot because overnight levels would be a flat line until 3am, now it’s all over the place. I’ve thought about...

Time to split or change basal?

I’ve been struggling for sometime with higher than normal levels. I keep quite a strict target range of 5.3-8mmol but I’m finding I’m rarely within this boundary at the moment & I’m injecting much more basal & bolus. Looking back at my Libra data & it’s been 12 days since I’ve had 24hrs I’m...

    Diagnosed with T1

Hi welcome to the forum, sorry it’s under such circumstances. I’ve been diagnosed nearly 12 months now and it does get better. You will soon become an expert on your diabetes & yes life will be different but it will also continue much the same. This place is a great source of information &...

    Can I get drunk?

Cider was the one alcohol I was warned off on diagnosis but I’ve done some digging and found that Redbank do a low sugar/carb cider. I’ve been meaning to order some & see what it’s like. https://www.redbankcider.co.uk/acatalog/Nutrition.html

    Freestyle Libre Arrows Inaccurate?

Yeh I find they can be quite inaccurate so I don’t rely on them. If I’m going to do anything I always double check with a finger prick, it’s the only way to be 100% sure.

    Surgar in urine

Hi welcome to the forum, I remember that wait well and it’s hard trying not to worry, I’m sorry your having to go through that. It’s good that your doc has given you a metre to test, most would just wait for the fasting blood test. I’m a very data driven person so I would gather a little...

Newly diagnosed - unsure of type?

To be honest getting a c-peptide in the first place can be a struggle, a lot of drs will look at your age , weight and assume T2. Were there other symptoms on diagnosis such as ketones? Metformin wouldn’t completely be pointless if your T1 I think some people use it in conjunction with...

Newly diagnosed - unsure of type?

Hi welcome to the forum, Unfortunately that does sound like it leaves you a bit in the dark since the c peptide is neither high or low. The next step might be a GAD antibody test which if positive confirms T1. This also has a chance of leaving things inconclusive as if it’s negative it doesn’t...

Dry cough since vaccine. Type 2 Diabetes?

Ok if your cough started 2 weeks ago & you only got the test yesterday there’s a chance you had covid but it’s now undetectable. It’s recommended to get tested at the onset of symptoms. I guess oral thrush can sometimes be a symptom of diabetes but usually combined with the more classic...

Dry cough since vaccine. Type 2 Diabetes?

I think you would be best speaking to a doctor. As far as I’m aware a cough has nothing to do with a diabetes diagnosis. Did you get a covid test for the cough? Are there any other symptoms that make you think it’s diabetes?

    Type 1 Discrimination

Whether it’s intentional or not, this is discrimination. In your position I would gather supporting evidence from my DN regarding hypo incidents, awareness & control. I’d also instruct a solicitor to advocate for you and get in touch with a local disability advocate group to lend their support...

How long does blood sugar take to go down?

Hi Jack C-peptide and GAD tests are usually only done if you present with certain symptoms that could indicate T1 such as weight loss, high hba1c, ketones. Depending on how you presented on diagnosis a lot of people will just automatically be classed as type 2 based on age, weight & family...

    Frightened of food!

I took advantage of a cheap Gousto subscription to get new food ideas. Everything comes portioned & with nutritional info. You can usually find a sign up code for 50% off your first box. I kept the recipe cards for the ones I liked & just incorporate it into my weekly shop. I agree that...

    New diagnosis

I can usually go & get bloods done at the hospital. You could check if that’s an option. I did a urine c-peptide which I was advised to eat 2hrs before hand. Came back at 1.6ug so def T1

    Not ideal!

I’ve not encountered that before. My pharmacist said that brand is hard to get hold of at the moment, perhaps there is a manufacturing issue.
