    Diabetic/ pre diabetic ?

Probably prediabetic with those numbers but you must see your doctor and ask for a HbA1c test. If you are prediabetic then you have a very good chance of getting it under control and not progressing if you take action now. By the time you start getting symptoms, it will be much more difficult...

    A quick one...about BS test

It's called the Dawn Phenomenon aka liver dump and is both normal and common. It can be very difficult to control until you have everything else sorted. Search the forums and you will find numerous threads about it. Regards Bluebell Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk

    Carbs

Same problem. Years of "healthy" low fat eating resulting in biliary colic and gallbladder removal. The thing to do is to eat as low carb as you need to in order to control your blood sugar levels and as high (good) fat as you can tolerate. This will require a blood glucose monitor (I...

    5.1!!!!!

I had a review with the Dr this evening and she agreed to increase the metformin to 2 x 500mg SR per day. She will also send my graph to the practice specialist who may be able to tell from the shape whether the issue is IR or loss of B cells (or a bit of both!). I must say that I am impressed...

    Type 2 can be reversed

Very well done however, be careful. I reduced my HbA1c from 7.1 (54) to 5.1 (32) over a 6 month period losing 17 kg along the way. The doctor was so surprised by the result that she thought I could have been misdiagnosed. I had an OGTT last week which showed that I am still diabetic. You...

    Can anyone recommend a meter?

+1 for the SD Codefree. Easy to use and the cheapest strips. Where I am, T2 do not get meters or test strips on prescription and I have been going through a lot of strips as I get to grips with my condition. Regards Bluebell

    Relationship. MFP and Fats.

If you look at the individual breakdowns for each food you will see that not all of them will breakdown the fat total. The app will only total Satfats/Polyfats/Monofats and Trans Fats where thay are listed. For example, the bacon I had for lunch had 18.9g of fat of which 6.1 was sat and the...

    5.1!!!!!

I have just received the official start and finish numbers - 5.8 and 10.5. These are slightly lower than my readings of 6.1 and 11.5 so it looks as if my meter is reading about 10% high. I am seeing the doctor again next week to discuss the way forward. I suspect it will be carry on as you...

    Type 2 Hypos on Metformin?

A T2 on metformin is very unlikely to get a hypo. However, I believe that you should still test to ensure that you don't eat meals that give you a hyper. Tight control of your blood glucose levels will have huge health benefits. Regards Bluebell Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk

Reversal or remission - your thoughts

I reduced my HbA1c from 7.1 to 5.1 over the last 6 months and lost 17kg along the way by following LCHF and IF. The doctor thought I may have been misdiagnosed so we ran an OGTT this morning. I peaked at 17.1 and was still over 11 at the 2 hour point. Definitely remission and not reversal...

Pulsatile Tinnitus and Diabetes - Have you had or got both?

Me too. 34 years in the Army working with and testing guns, armoured vehicles and helicopter jet engines. High frequency hearing loss and continuous pulsating tinnitus in both ears. Regards Bluebell Sent from my SM-T810 using Diabetes.co.uk Forum mobile app

    5.1!!!!!

OGTT this morning. I get the official results tomorrow but I did my own monitoring - looks like a resounding fail! I'm not sure why the initial reading was so high at 6.1. My fasting bg 2 hours before was 5.2 and all I had since then was water. It will be interesting to compare numbers...

    high blood sugar

4 to 7 mmol/l is a target range for the amount of glucose in your blood. This is what you need to control. Many of us have found that the best way to do this is to buy your own blood glucose meter and self test. That way you can determine what foods and in particular how many carbohydrates...

    5.1!!!!!

I went for my first diabetes eye check today and was advised that I must have at least 150gms of carbs per day for at least 3 days before the OGTT. That's 2 weeks’ worth in 3 days! Oh well, I will get reacquainted with chips and pasta for a while. It will be interesting to see what effect...

    How low is low carb?

30 to 50 grams per day spread over 2 meals in an 8 hour window has worked wonders for me. I don't find it too difficult either. Regards Bluebell Sent from my SM-T810 using Tapatalk

    5.1!!!!!

Just MS Excel on my pc for the graphing. I keep the file in Onedrive so I can enter the data on my tablet. I also use the MyFitnessPal app to keep a track of macros at each meal and the MySugr app to check the correlation between meals and bg levels. As an engineer, I firmly believe that you...
