    COVID vaccination

I can only speak for myself, but I am waiting for an exploratory procedure at my local hospital, which normally would have been done in a matter of days, but my consultant has admitted that due to Covid-19 causing problems and delays, I will not be seen until sometime around February. As an...

Long Covid. A support thread for those who take a while to recover from Covid-19

Came across this which may be of interest to those of you who think they may have undetected COVID pre February: https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-italy-timing/researchers-find-coronavirus-was-circulating-in-italy-earlier-than-thought-idUKKBN27V0KF Looks like COVID has been...

For all you Carnivores out there (and anybody else who eats meat): https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/nov/04/uk-health-professions-call-for-climate-tax-on-meat Looks like the heavy mob are moving in!

    Flu vaccination

I seem to remember I had a similar reaction the first time I had the flu jab, about five years ago. Each time since then, the reaction has gotten milder, until the latest this year when all I felt was a very slight pin-prick and no after effects.

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

Please do not tar all people who are retired with the same brush. I am retired and have lost money due to the virus but that does not mean that I think that everyone else can go hang. I will support any sensible measures needed to defeat the pandemic. I hope that your post was badly worded, not...

Honestly now , how often do you change your lancet

Usually when I start a new tub of strips, if I remember. So about every three weeks or so. Bought a box of 200 lancets over four years ago, still got a lot left.

How long are you on LCHF diet?

Over four years now, I can’t imagine going back to a high carb diet, too much stodge. Try to keep around 20-25 grams a day, max, on a good day perhaps as low as 10.

    Flu vaccination

Had a text from my local surgery at the end of July to say they will start booking appointments from the beginning of September, booked in for two weeks ago, quick in and out, no problems since. It’s the first time I’ve not had any reaction to the flu jab, just a slight pin-head mark. One less...

Confused by grapes ( and more)

I am fairly confident that my meter is reasonably accurate, I often play “guess the reading” when I test. I am more often than not pretty close to the meter. I have four meters and my go to one (contour next) has shown itself to be the most reliable. It does seem to read slightly higher than the...

Confused by grapes ( and more)

I did a similar experiment with one of my home grown apples a few days ago. The apple weighed about 100 grams as eaten, so about 10-15 grams of carbs (half my usual daily total). Bg before apple, 6.2; after 30 mins, 6.5; 60 mins, 6.5; 90 mins, 5.9; 150 mins, 5.4. Later, after evening meal, 120...

Foods that Diabetics shouldavoid, and why

I managed to wade through all the sections and I thought most of the advice was reasonable for “new T2’s”. The glaring exception was the insistence that whole meal grains are somehow Ok. For me all grains are off limits. Oh, and the advice to avoid saturated fats! Only eating to your meter will...

Do you add salt, magnesium, potassium to your diet?

I eat very little processed food, cooked meats being the main ones. I find that if I don’t add salt to my meals I get cramp at night. Other than that, no supplements. Although maybe I should investigate magnesium supplements if they help sleep, as I only get about six hours a night.

Prescribed Metformin but wondering I can do this on diet alone

Personally I take the mySugar predictions with a large pinch of salt. A couple of years ago, I transferred my BG readings (about 4 a day) for a few months into the app, and it predicted an Hba1c of about 35. Actual blood test from Docs came in in the low 40s. I've not bothered with mySugar...

The number that the NHS contact tracers use is 03000135000 so if you see this it is not a scam. Apparently they all use this.

    Allow myself to introduce.... myself

Hi @cd667 another one from Derbyshire here, also just outside the Peak District. I was sent by my Doc on some sort of Diabetes course in Clay Cross a few years ago, it was useless. Eatwell plate blah blah, good carbs, lots of fruit. I spent some time "discussing" the merits of her advice and...
