Sweet potatoes vs white potatoes impact on blood sugar levels

I’m not a T1, but I find sweet potatoes spike me about 3-4 hours after eating them, so for me they are a no-no. As are ordinary potatoes.

    All inclusive resorts

We went on a short cruise in the Med last year, the breakfasts and lunches were buffet style so no problem. The dinners were set menus, but the staff were quite happy to amend my main dish to a low carb serving, but only by cutting out the carby bits! I skipped the deserts (mostly) as they were...

Hello, My name is "Estragon" and I'm a Diabetic....

I'm not on any medication so I can't comment on their effects. Have a look at the main site here and there is much good information that will explain things better than I. Also have a look at Dietdoctor.com and bloodsugar101.com both are good respected sites.

Hello, My name is "Estragon" and I'm a Diabetic....

I took me many weeks to join this forum, my first and only social media site, so well done on joining. From your figures you are doing well. As you have been diabetic for a few years it will take you a while to get used to the lower blood sugar levels. Keep at it and you will succeed.

    Diabetic nurse

Your nurse may not be impressed with your numbers, but I am, and so will most on this forum. Unfortunately some HCPs have not caught up with modern thinking, and are still sticking to their outdated teaching. Carry on with what you know works. You’re doing great!

A few asking for low carb food lists....

Hi @Reemap , I only eat cauliflower occasionally, mostly in cauliflower cheese, never as rice, but it has no effect on me. Not heard about kidney stones so can't comment on that.

A few asking for low carb food lists....

If you eat animal products with no coating (batter etc) then they are just about carb free. I would recommend using a BG meter to check your levels before and after eating as some people report large amounts of protein can raise BG levels.

    "Fake News" from the BBC?

On rereading my post, it does not seem to be very clear. My point is that the BBC claim that most soya imports into the UK are for animal feed. As I said below that claim, in fact for 2015/16 soya imports for use in the animal feed industry amount to 35% of all soy imported. Hardly "most" as...

    "Fake News" from the BBC?

Came across a piece on the BBC website today on how farmers are tackling climate change. One way the beeb recons they can do that is to keep livestock outside for longer. Fair enough. It then goes on to say (in big bold type): Over 2.5 million tonnes of Soya is imported into the UK each year...

    Newly diagnosed type 2

Personally I don’t bother with the small amount of carbs in the milk I have in tea. Looking at the big picture is more what matters to me. Cutting out carbs from bread, pasta, potatoes, and anything that contains sugar helps more. Unfortunately that includes most fruits which I love, but I do...

Jimmy Moore - Exiled From YouTube

I’ve just looked up Mercola using DuckDuckGo search engine, seems not to be a problem. I am increasingly using the duck for searching as I think Google has strayed a long way from its former motto of “Do no harm”.

    night cramps

Hi @charlieoscar2 and welcome, throughout my life I have been plagued by leg cramps on a random basis, particularly when I first started low-carbing three years ago. Mainly because I cut out nearly all processed foods which often have a highish salt content. I now make sure I add salt to meals...

    Breakfast.....cereals

When I used to have a regular breakfast I made my own granola. I can’t remember the recipe, but it was a mixture of flaked coconut, seeds, and nuts. On those I poured some coconut oil and baked in the oven for about 10 minutes. Kept in an airtight box, it lasts for weeks. I ate it with Greek...

Thanks for the link, BB. It makes me weep to think about all the miss-information re “good carbs” in the form of healthy grains that has been thrown at us over the last fifty years.
