Probably not insulin because I believe it's shelf life makes it not probable. However, her indoors went for her regular prescription only to find that her normal supplier (Italian) has been replaced by a UK manufacturer. That shouldn't be a problem except that at her PPG meeting during the week, the senior partner at her surgery was saying how certain UK companies are buying up huge quantities of certain drugs and stockpiling them. The consequence of doing this is creating a shortage which in turn pushes the price up. Anyone else seeing this happen?

Hi @DavidGrahamJones ,

What I did see is a news article on C4 last night by "Dispatches?" "Trump's plan for the NHS." (Is the title.)
Claiming "secret talks" with American pharma by UK officials are happening..the deal could agreys sickly drive away the "competition?"

Which in short. Could push the price up for the NHS..

Yes I have watched it frightening wasn't it.

The UK currently pays less for drugs because the government will say no to new drugs which don't offer value. The U.S. don't have a government that buys drugs, except in a few cases. In the U.S. insurers use middlemen called pharmacy benefit managers - or PBMs - to negotiate prices on their behalf. In any trade deal with the U.S. the U.K. will be expected to align with the U.S.

It almost seems that we're dumping the E.U. in favour of the U.S. and where was Boris born? LOL

The American pharma companies have spent an awful lot of money lobbying the US government in order to make drug prices a part of any trade deal with the UK just as they have done with every other country the US has made trade deals with recently. If they have their way the NHS drug bill could go up to 45 billion pounds a year not a good scenario.

Donald Trump calls us free loaders and believes our ability to negotiate prices at the moment is an injustice.

Well I’ve just spent a few hours today hunting down insulin- script in on Wed, went to collect today. Told come back on Mon , but I can’t because will be at work. Wrestle script back off them and start visiting all local pharmacies- so Sainsbury’s can do it but not before 4 tonight.
