    Meds Help Please

I had a banana and went for a walk tonight. When I got back my bg was 4.5 - my lowest ever. Diabetes is a very personal disease. You have to find out what suits you.

    Totally Lost Type2.

I'm watching it all the time and will gradually increase as time goes by. I've lost 17 kilos is just over 10 weeks. When the weight is under control I'll make sure that I eat properly. I find the whole subject of nutrition interesting.

    Meds Help Please

If you are lucky, Metformin will change your world and put you back in charge of your eating. 3 months ago I was pigging out on 5 - 6 K calories per day. I started taking the pesky pills and now eat around 1200 cals per day. I've lost 17 kilos without even trying. Give them a whirl.

POLL.Has continuous glucose monitoring changed your out look?

A meter is a great help. Within a week I can predict what my levels will be according to time/exersize/diet etc. I'll not need to test anywhere near as much as I am doing now in the future. It really gets on my goat that the NHS is willing to spend £5K on bariatric surgery for the morbidly...

    Totally Lost Type2.

I'm pretty new at this. Actually when I was out walking just now I totted up my carbs and I think it's nearer 80 to 90. I had a banana before I went out, felt great when walking, loads of energy and I've just come back and tested bg - and it's 4.5. That's the lowest I've recorded yet. Generally...

    Totally Lost Type2.

What you need to do is see what works for you. Check your bg with a meter, but also see how you feel. If I go really low carbs, then as an active person I start to flag and the wick gets turned down. I find that if I eat a slice of bread, or have a banana, or something similar before work/ walk...

    Newly diagnosed

Well Metformin worked wonders for me. From baking a full sized sultana cake and eating the whole thing EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK, to zero sugar, low carbs etc. I was eating over 5000 calories per day! And you think you were bad. I'd like to throttle Mary Berry. I went right off sweet stuff when I...

    Newly diagnosed

I managed to get my HbA1C down from 67 to 50 in 10 weeks, so you've got a pretty good head start on me, So go for it.

    Is it true

I'm pretty new to this regular testing regime. Would I be right in suggesting that the 'dawn phenomena' is actually a good thing, akin to pulling out the choke on an old fashioned car until it warms up?

Newly diagnosed Type 2 & Neuropathic pain?!

I think you need a CT scan of your back to see if any nerves are trapping. My partner had one and a back operation recently (very successful too). I too get the hot/cold feet thing and usually sleep with a type of Bootie on that I got from IKEA. The odd thing is, that if I use an electric...

Can I do a low carb high fat diet with high cholesterol?

That's a great video. Can't say I fully grasped all the LDL stuff, but I'll fill the gaps in later. Then again, it's a complex subject and most of the audience were doctors.

    Who makes full fat yoghurt?

Does anyone know where I can get a live culture yoghurt?

What is the best diet drink?

I'm a bit odd now I'm on Metformin. I love PLJ in a glass of water. It used to make me screw my face up, but it tastes fine to me these days.

    Diagnosis Type 2 today.

If you are lucky (as I am) Metformin will change your world. I lost all interest in eating sweet food when I started taking it (500mg x2) and have lost around 17 kilos in 11 weeks without even trying. One thing you will soon realise is that the NHS hasn't got a clue how to handle diabetes and...

    Really down...losing my mind

You need to stop driving , that's for sure, before you kill yourself or some completely innocent driver. What you are doing is highly illegal.

    Tange. Newly diagnosed Type2.

You have to buy your own meter. SDcodefree is excellent. Got mine on Saturday.

    Not looking after myself

I wonder if he's simply overwhelmed? A mountain too high to contemplate climbing.

Just started testing, one question please.

Ok thanks guys. I had a reading of 9.1 after eating muesli with a pro-biotic Danone drink. I'll have to see which one gives me the spike and drop it off a little.

    Metformin questions!

Metformin is a funny old drug. It seems to effect everyone differently. My experience of it (been about 11 weeks 2 x 500mg). On the first day I lost all interest in anything sweet, and the biscuits went in the bin - not had one since. No cake or pastry, just not interested. Then I went off red...
