    Going back a few years!

I too have been Type1 for 54 years now and developed it at the age of 17 when I was in the lower Sixth Form at grammar school. I too can relate to the Clinitest, "orange" injection practice, and my stay on a general ward in hospital to be stabilised for a week after which i begged to be let out...

Anyone else feel their Doctor(s) let them down ?

I`m afraid that in spite of years of promises from the health professionals, unless there is a specific interest in diabetes, then we are left very much to fend for ourselves and although there has been some progress, lack of dietary advice is as prevalent now as it was 53 years ago when I was...

    Medical Id - Bracelet/necklace

I buy mine from Medic Alert, search on the Web for their site and inspect their wares. The bracelet etc is not free but you fill in a questionnaire and they record your information before supplying your item which has info which medics etc. can use by contacting the phone number on the medallion...

    Interesting Gp View.

Perhaps I`m stating the obvious but "one size does not fit all"!! We are all individuals and therefore what is right for one does not mean that it is right for anyone else. We cope as much by self management as by help/advice from medical professionals. As far as my GP is concerned I am coping...

    Complications From Insect Bites?

All I can say is that I am always bitten and my husband who is not diabetic is not ever. Don`t know if there is any medical opinion on this but bites take several days to stop itching and yes I too come out in red blisters.

    Gp Madness

It seems now that finance is the priority and many diabetics are left to self manage as best they can. I have not seen my GP for over a year and have never had a diabetic team just a staff nurse at the surgery who knows next to nothing about diabetes but still has to carry out my annual review...

How Are You Coping With The Heat (uk)?

All very well but for older diabetics, especially those in nursing homes the effect of thee heat is terrifying, they simply wilt and those with the added burden of dementia cannot even express their discomfort.

    Constant hypos

Thank you I already do this and do a BM test before going to bed.

    Constant hypos

I agree but with the new system of "askmyGP" which has recently been introduced here, I can stay on the telephone (and already have done) for 3 hours trying to speak to my GP, turn up at the surgery and get nowhere fast. Since there is a 2 year wait to see a diabetic consultant, I HAVE to manage...

    Constant hypos

I agree entirely but it is 2 years since I saw a diabetic consultant and if I get to see one within 2 years I will be very surprised as the waiting list is 2 years now.. To illustrate how bad the situation is I have spent 3 hours trying to speak to my GP without any success at all and I feel...

    Constant hypos

I agree but here in S E Wales I do not even have a diabetic consultant and practice nurses who carry out the Annual Reviews know next to nothing so I completely understand you trying different things re. insulin on your own. Thank you for your thoughts and Good Luck!! TerriH

    Constant hypos

Thank you but I do all this. When I go hypo however I lose consciousness and my husband has to try and feed me glucose tablets until I come round. These tablets are always at our bedside as well as other carbs but what else can we do????

    Constant hypos

Since the clocks changed for British Summertime I have had constant hypos both by day but especially between 01 and 03 am. The same thing happens in the autumn. I have reduced insulin doses, decreased both insulatard and actrapid and even eaten extra carbs before bedtime but this week for...

    Clock change

Dear Forum, I have been a type 1 insulin dependent for 51 years. I have noticed that over the past few years, my blood sugar levels dip alarmingly during the Spring and Autumn when the clocks go forward or backwards. Has anyone experienced such a thing?? Grateful for any comments.
