Could this be diabetes related? (Hand problem)

I had very alarming symptoms which sound quite like some of yours when I'd been on Statins for some time, mainly in one arm/hand - also in the leg on the same side; they stopped when I came off Statins. I wasn't diabetic, but have since edged into low borderline readings which have reduced on...

Statin side effects all in the mind !

It sounds very suspicious and of questionable integrity not to list side effects, not least as people may continue taking the drugs even if they are causing them distress and harm, and be unaware that they are to blame. I had a lot of muscle pain when I'd been on them a while and came off them...

Did you know that LCHF diet for diabetics was available in 1917 ??

Leeches are very rarely used now though, but LCHF seems to be increasing greatly in popularity - it certainly is with me, with good before and after meal test readings!

"You don't look like a Type 2 diabetic"

I'm not sure what LADA is (?), but I've a BMI of 19 and HBa1C of 43, which is the lowish Prediabetes, I believe, but have taken action as my brother is full Diabetic. I've found lowish carb, and wholegrain for what I do have and Bergen bread, and higher protein including vegetarian options have...

    pre-diabetes, fasting blood sugars.

3.9 after shower + shampoo plus walking dogs, but I think 4.2 lowest before that. I think I may have got it very low with lower carb higher protein/fat diet, and trying to reduce stress, but have long had low BMI too for decades and walked my dogs 1.5 hrs a day. HbA1c was 43 for the last two...

    Paying for Strips and meds?

I get strips very reasonably via Diabetes.co.uk website, at far less than my Pharmacist told me she would have to charge if I ordered them from her - very fair of her (though she got an agreement from them for me to have them on prescription, to start with at least - I live in Wales)

    Explaining to unhelpful relatives.

I found changing to Goat or Sheep versions of dairy don't cause my cowsmilk triggered migraines, which makes life a fair bit tastier, and blue-style soya cheese from the healthfood shop is a tasty LCHF addition, as is course pate from the Co-op, and Burgen bread seems not to cause a spike, and...

    First time tester(SD)Code Free)

I found testing baffling at first, but easier once I realised that it is the top edge of the test strip that is placed at right angles to finger tip - I wasted all but one of the samples that came with the meter trying to lay the tip flat onto the finger! I find, also, that rubbing my fingertip...

Offended by official, mandatory training material...

Yes, I'm prediabetic with a BMI of 18.5! with a love of wholefoods and a dislike of added sugar!

Pain in stomach when having a hypo

I get stomach (abdominal) pain when I'm too hungry, which will happen when towards hypo (for me nearer 4 than 5), I guess (I'm prediabetic, and want to avoid 'promotion', so trying low carb diet)

    Saturated Fats

or on a slice of Rye Bread (the cork-mat lookalike type from healthfood shop or 'free from' supermarket shelves) - much lower carb :-)

    Prediabetes and testing

I try to eat every 3-4 hours, as I get a highish reading if I get too hungry and maybe add an apple after a low GI wholemeal sandwich. I've also started adding Flaxseed, other seeds and nuts to my jumbo oat and barley flake and buckwheat flake cereal, and reduced tea but added decaf coffee...

    HbA1c - good result........but

I take Lecigran (Soya Lecithin granules) from the healthfood shop. Coincidence or not, I believe mine's gone down from about 6 to 5.1; the stress in my life has also reduced, though, which I believe can be a factor.

    Inulin food supplements.

I'm trying it - Angela Ripon on anti-aging programme suggested it to reduce visceral fat; I have been identified as pre-diabetic with Hb1ac of 43 and am trying this together with reduced carbohydrates and no sugar, hoping to reduce the reading and avoid progressing to diabetes

Live Q&A with Dr. David Cavan

New Question for Dr Cavan: I saw the 'How to stay young' with Angela Ripon who said she was taking Inulin healthfood shop supplement to help with her visceral bodyfat and have been trying this as I think I'm starting to get this and have been taking it for a few weeks. My Hba1c recent reading...
