Dealing with diabetic complications alone [emoji20]

I kind of know how you feel but in general people don’t really listen, they are all worrying about they’re problems which to them are massive but to you seem trivial. Doctors tend to be dumplings, I live alone and it’s easy to get depressed ( I do very often, and the world can fxxk off, but it...

Type 1 Light at the end of the tunnel ?

Hello has anybody had any positive news on the fs libre system in Glasgow yet ? I’m gearing up for a struggle. I have a clinic appointment at Queen Elizabeth at start of January. Happy new year to all.

    How to qualify for libre?

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the Libre system mainly from the healthcare professionals, there are the NICE guidelines but many many different stories, so I hope you are successful and or lucky but keep us all updated, I personally think we are all in line for a long struggle. Happy...

Has anyone here been a diabetic for more than 40 years?

44 years from glass and metal syringes with insulin lumps, to a medtronic 640 pump but have self funded libre but can no longer afford it, so looking forward to fight to get it, I am registered blind, neuropathy, toe amputated, foot ulcers, retinopathy, frozen shoulders, and hands ( my excuse...

Advised to reuse lances? Is that right?

I change them when ever it occurs to me, I suppose there’s “ experts “ will tell you single use only, but it’s whatever you feel comfortable with.

Going blind - will I lose my pump?

Hello mush, the cataract op is usually a day surgery thing but with me due to issues with anaesthetic it meant I had to get family member to come and get me. I went to hospital myself. The op was done under a local and I was quickly finished. Any invasive surgery is potentially risky. Once the...

    Food and drink choices

“ oh no that could / do you want to /kill me “ or “ oh no that causes cancer “ or else just say to her “ could you for once ****** listen NO “ I know what one I would use with a tad more relish though. When she gets her fright eg amputation of some appendage ( and this will happen ) take her up...

Type 1 Hypos hours after meals (even with correct carb to insulin ratio) followed by hypers

Hi it maybe related to what your eating, if it’s high in fat like for instance India food or pizza this can slow down food adsorption, or small and often, food and insulin, small adjustments, but it’s early for yourself. Try not too worry or stress to much, it will become clearer, honest.

Just my luck or is it ? Hehe.

In my introduction article I mentioned that I have complications and one of them is blindness but I consider myself very lucky “ in the kingdom of the blind the one eyed man is king “ so I wear my crown at a jaunty angle. My vision in my good eye is very very poor so I tend to tread lightly and...

    Pump sites!!

Mid back and not too far in, as I mentioned I’ve got two frozen shoulders so my movement is very restricted, easier on the right side ( of my back ) but my front right side is useless or is that just me ?

    Pump sites!!

I have used my legs, stomach front and sides but the best efficient site has been my back, but I have two frozen shoulders but certainly the best sites, and comfortable too.

Hello Icelover I have just read your post and it’s all new to me and a eye opener, I’ve been type 1 for 44 years and only recently got my medtronic 640 and I have never heard of the accu check and from what I read the cellnovo appeared to be fantastic, so thanks for the info but more importantly...

    Medtronic 640g

Hello Sweetheart 66 I too am now on this pump and I am finding the freedom very refreshing but I have found certain places and sites on my wee fat body work better than others. My hands are taking a pounding with bg checking a lot so as to try and get the levels correct but there are many...

    Feeling annoyed!

Greg angry is to say the least, I have been type 1 for approximately 44 years and one thing I’ve learned or accepted is just to get on with it, it is now being to grind me down but I still look at life in the terms of carbs, hypos, excercise, etc, I can’t stop and that takes up all my waking and...

Hehe we get everywhere. I would imagine that in far flung exotic places there’s a wee bundle of drunken rags that is usually a Scotsman ( usually a Govanite )

Is it not rolls and egg ? As a native of Govan but never a student ( except school where I was asked to leave, not expelled) that’s how I would say it, only a thought .

Hello Caitlinx don’t worry about it, it just means you’ve got to adopt a slightly different attitude / approach, you’ll read labels more, become aware of good things, that’s not to say you can’t have nice things all you do is count them into your regime which will fall into place quickly...
