Odd symptoms - can anybody relate?

I completely agree with @AndBreathe . As someone who has an underactive thyroid those symptoms you describe are very typical of an underactive thyroid. Don’t be fobbed off.

    pre-diabetes, fasting blood sugars.

Hi @littlebrownbird - do you mean the Oviva online program? If yes, then I am on it - almost 3 months done so far. To be honest i thought they wouldn’t support my dietary choice of keto but they have. I have found a lot of the “lessons” to not be anything I didn’t know but I do have a...

    Just diagnosed via HbA1c test

Just thought I would say that I am on the online NHS Healthier You Oviva program for pre-diabetes. When I was enrolled on it I had already decided (in fact already started) a keto diet and I will hopefully move off keto onto a low carb diet . I thought they wouldn’t support a keto diet (they...

    Nutritional advice

Hi. Chester1964 welcome to the forum. I am also pre diabetic - found out by text message last November. As soon as I found out I started doing my own research and luckily found this forum. I decided to start a keto diet - 20g carbs/day or less as I wanted to loose weight. I wasn’t massively...

    Rookie Question - Ketosis check

As @KennyA says, I use Ketostix from Amazon. You can get meters and strips but the strips are quite expensive - about £1/strip.

    Fasting blood test

I loved most of those high carb foods, weetabix, bread, chips, pizza, pasta etc but I haven’t eaten any of them since being told I was pre-diabetic. My motivation - I do not want to go on to develop type 2 if I can help it and I certainly don’t want a lifetime of medication and more medication...

    VAT relief for pre-diabetics?

I test every morning and before and after meals if eating something new. Currently on 20g/day of carbs but want to gradually increase the carbs once at target weight so will definitely be testing more when I do that. Edited to add was only told I was prediabetic at end of Nov 2023 so also...

    VAT relief for pre-diabetics?

Hi Rachox, you are right in it being a grey area but I think it isn’t as it isn’t really a “sickness”. Just a warning that it might become one.

    VAT relief for pre-diabetics?

Looking at the link in that I think it is a no for pre diabetes, however I am hypothyroid as well so possibly that would qualify me?

    VAT relief for pre-diabetics?

Does anybody know if you can claim vat relief on test strips and meters if you are pre diabetic?

In defence of low carb subs

Thanks for the heads up, I was aware of this so did test myself and luckily it doesn’t seem to affect me. I do generally test whenever I eat something ”new” .

In defence of low carb subs

That is a great idea to use them as a side, having steak on Saturday so may well try them with that - I do miss chips with my steak. I have also used them to make “garlic bread” which we really like.

In defence of low carb subs

I have been lurking around this forum since end of November and through it have found a couple of subs that have made a big difference for me - low carb bread (although first brand didn’t suit me but loving the one I use now and just recently have found the Carb killa protein bars which really...

    food Yes or No

I got a little worried when I saw your original comment but I have been on 20g or less a day of carbs since end of November and have felt no ill effects and I also do TRE. Like you I am guessing my GP will tut and frown but as I am not scheduled to see him until the end of this year I will do...

    food Yes or No

Thanks for the reply, that is interesting that your diet has made a difference. I have been on 100mg thyroxine for 5 years now and my levels have been stable and good. I am currently doing keto to lose some weight (not a lot as my bmi is now 23) but still like to get rid of some excess belly...

    food Yes or No

Hi, sorry to take thread off topic - I also have a dodgy thyroid - underactive. Just wondering what the reasoning is for not going ultra low carb?

    Stressed and worried

@Gargoyletaz so glad you are doing ok. Your story about your nurse makes my blood boil - it just reinforces my belief that you have to do your own research and be your own advocate. Over the years I have gradually lost faith in a lot of doctors and nurses - being told my i was suffering from...

    Pre diabetic

I would suggest having a good read of this forum - it is a mine of information. i am hypothyroid as well although I have had that for the last 6-7 years and it is pretty stable. The pre-diabetes is recent - November last year. Is your thyroid back into normal range yet do you know - it took...

    What’s your inspiration?

Like some others on here my inspiration/motivation is avoiding a lifetime of continually increasing medication and I want to keep my eyesight, all limbs/feet intact, working kidneys etc. We have just bought a motorhome and want to go off exploring europe and beyond for months at a time so that...
