How can I get my fasting blood sugar levels to come down?

My fasting BS has been consistently over 7 and as high as 8.8 every day for past 3-4 months. I've read about dawn phenomenon, but not sure if that's the issue. For example here are yesterdays readings: Fasting - 8.5 Before Brekky - 8.7 After Brekky - 7.6 (7 grams of carbs) Before Lunch - 6.1...

    Hba1c back within normal range

In NZ, Below 40 = normal. 41-49 is pre-diabetes. 50+ is diabetes I'd personally still continue to try and get it lower, even though they've told you "no action to be taken".

    Hba1c back within normal range

Ok. Thanks. From that I hear that the fasting BS might take a bit longer to come down. I understand that to go back to eating loads of carbs is going to send me back down the path towards diabetes, but I was hoping that I could go back to eating carbs such as potato, rice, pasta, bread as part...

    Hba1c back within normal range

HBA1C 1st Jun = 51 HBA1C 1st Sep = 40 9kg weight-loss and low carb diet. I haven't discussed the results with doc yet, as I ordered and paid for the test myself as doc wanted to wait 7 months (probably a funding issue). However, fasting BS are still not great. Range from 7.4 to 8.8 and I'm...

Newly diagnosed - shock but encouraging BS results

That seems odd to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes with a Hba1c of 40. I'm in New Zealand and had an annual Hba1c of 51 and was told I had prediabetes. Yours is way lower than mine and your blood sugar readings all look normal to me. Also its not usual to diagnose type 2 with 1 hba1c if a...

    Newbie with some concerns

Hi Brunneria Yeah I did feel that she looked as me as if I was neurotic and fobbed me off. I didn't feel that I'd been heard at all, and you're right, I know myself and my body better than anyone. She seemed more interested in giving me a smear test that was due. I'm in New Zealand so I can...

    Newbie with some concerns

Hi yeah. I'm going to keep monitoring that BP from time to time. I have had a couple of incidents of bending down to pick something up and gotten the dizzyness on standing back up, suggesting low BP. That's awful that somebody got really hurt :(

    Newbie with some concerns

Update: Saw the dr today. Told fasting levels were fine and not to worry about the blood sugar spike and feeling unwell, as apparently this is just something that happens to people after clean eating for a while (herself included), when they overload the carbs/ sugar. Advice: Just don't have the...

    New Pre diabetic.

Thankyou that is very helpful :) So far, I've cut potatoes, and have grilled pumpkin instead. I've also cut spaghetti and pasta and go for vegie replacements like meatballs on cabbage, or curry on cauliflower rice. Vogels (New Zealand) do an extra thin sliced bread that is wholegrain and under...

Congrats on getting your HBA1C back within a normal range through diet and exercise alone. Very inspiring.

    Newbie with some concerns

Thanks for your reply. The weight loss has been since the diagnosis of Pre-diabetes, and as a result of reduced calorie, carb, and sugar intake. I realise that reducing sugar and carbs is the way to go, but it seems the more I reduce them, the less my body can handle it when I do up the intake...
