    Found out yesterday I'm diabetic

This is the thing that confuses me a tad. Surely a 'low' carb high fat diet universally advised to start on here means you can have 'some' carbs? So for example if you used to have 5 new potatoes with a roast dinner it will help your blood sugar to reduce that intake to 1 or 2 rather than...

Hi, I've been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes but am worried reading all the diet plans on this website that I have no option but to lose weight in order to reduce my Hbac1 glucose level down from 61. I'm 6 foot 3 and 12 stone and very skinny. I cant face losing weight and becoming even skinnier...

Told not to get a blood glucose meter

Hi, I too saw a diabetic nurse today after a 5 week wait. She told me that as my HBA1c reading is 61 so I would not and should not be given a tester kit as they are only given to people taking tablets or injecting insulin. She said with a healthy diet (including a smaller portion of carbs) and...

I have just looked at this book on Amazon and looked at a few pages Some advice reads "Wholegrain carbohydrates provide energy and a good source of vitamins and fibre. Recently being diagnosed as T 2 and had lots of info already offered to me but carbs any good ones?

Before I was diagnosed as type 2 I was always warned against eating too much fat, but the considered opinion on this forum seems to be go for a low carb high fat diet? Apologies if this is an ignorant question but wouldn't the high fat aspect be just as unhealthy an option as high carbs?

    Newly diagnosed and confused

Hi, I got fed up with having to wait until 12th September to see the diabetic nurse so I went to see my doctor. She refused to give me a testing meter as she thinks I can control my type 2 by eating normally and just cutting out biscuits, cake and chocolate. When I questioned this she said she'd...

    Newly diagnosed and confused

Hi, thanks very much for your replies I will order a meter and some test strips as advised. I bumped into a friend I used to work with at the weekend and he said he too has had type 2 diabetes for the past 3 years. He said he has never gone in for carb counting and just experiments with eating...

    Newly diagnosed and confused

Hi, Thankyou very much for your replies and for your welcome. Yes It's all a bit daunting but to have you guys to ask for advice is very heartening. All I could make out from the hospital receptionist when she called was that anyone scoring over 48 in a particular test has diabetes, and I...

    Newly diagnosed and confused

Hi, I was confirmed this week as having type 2 diabetes. I'm on the borderline of having to take tablets so have been told to change my diet to begin with. I'm 6 foot 3 but have always been skinny so am worried about losing too much weight. I was told to talk to the diabetic nurse at my local...
