    Desmond course

Hi, the DESMOND I did was broken up over two consecutive Saturdays. There is a lot of information to absorb and breaking it up certainly helped. We were also given a good set of notes in a folder which you can read at your leisure, which is what I have done. Nik

    Itchy Boy.

Hi, yes, my scalp and feet were very itchy. Once I got my BG levels down this seems to have helped. I was also dehydrated so assume this was something to do with it. Nik

    Foot Cream

    underweigt and low carb

Hi, I didnt necessarily have to lose weight as although I wasnt underweight my BMI was fine and I've ended up losing nearly a stone in 2 months by low carbing. Eating more fat is a difficult mindset to get in to after years of being told not to. I remember seeing a thread on here about eating...

    Very newly diagnosed.

Hi, I managed to get BS in the low 20s. A combination of low carbing, 2 x metformin/day and a little bit of exercise saw my BS numbers fall within a month and are now consistently 5 or 6. We were told on Desmond course that waist size is important i.e. aim for <37 inches and that's around the...

    Desmond course

The 50% statistic both intrigued and alarmed me. I wouldnt expect answers as to why it's so high from the Desmond course but I will challenge my GP with this next time I see him. Nik

    Desmond course

We were also told about a half of people with type 2 diabetes will end up needing insulin injections. I've just been reading the literature we were given and this is repeated in there. Nothing wrong with that but does this sound high? Nik

    Desmond course

Hi, I have now completed the first part of Desmond course for type 2s. We were told the course was the idea of the Leicester Royal Infirmary in 2003 who felt patients were left with little information after being diagnosed. It was a group of 9 diabetics and many brought their partners along...

    Insulin not working so far

I've nothing to offer on the insulin but I took the low carb route only to find I lost a stone in no time at all after having a perfect BMI. I've decided the only way out of this is to increase my carb intake. So far my BS levels havent increased and are running at 5/6 two hours after a meal...

    1 mile rule

On my commute home I bypass an urban area so I will take a 3 mile detour to collect my medicines from a pharmacy that I've earmarked and is open until 6.30pm. I'm pleased to say my GP's surgery dispensary did dispense me medicine in an out of hours emergency (as they must) but alas not a repeat...

    1 mile rule

No, the GP isn't dispensing them personally. From reading online the reason the 1 mile rule was introduced, 100 years ago, was so doctors and patients couldnt collude on medicines. In the surgery I attend there is a dispensary and also a high street pharmacy which is bolted on to the surgery...

    1 mile rule

I took this up with the dispensary team leader who told me unfortunately the government set out this rule. If patients live within a mile of a Pharmacy ie high street chain, a Dispensing Practice are not allowed to dispense to these patients. This rule is 100 years old! My problem is I have...
