Zygosid-50 that targets the disease at its source by restoring the body’s sensitivity to insulin.

So, once it is released, let's imagine this drug does the trick (just as a thought experiment). Which would then be preferable: Taking the drug and reverting to a "normal" (high carb) diet? Or continuing to treat T2 with "diet only"? I'm very opposed to taking medicine unless absolutely...

    Update, and Puzzle

It's a large village in eastern Kent (the parish has about 2,300 inhabitants). It is small enough that giving you the name of the place would be tantamount to identifying me, so regretfully I will hold off. The place has four pubs plus three additional restaurants so the opportunities for...

    Update, and Puzzle

I mentioned this to the nurse at my appointment earlier this week. She asked me, "Haven't you been getting a letter in the mail" (about the eye check). I said no, and asked if she could do something about this, and she said that she would. Edited to add: my last check was in America just...

    Update, and Puzzle

Thank you @Rachox, @Antje77, @Tipetoo, @Goonergal and @Little Bird. I was actually glad to find out that my problem has (probably) nothing to do with diabetes. I am also kicking myself for not getting the HbA1c much earlier. The best testing interval for me is about six months but this time I...

    Update, and Puzzle

Great to hear from you @bulkbiker! I know what you mean, but (a) the hoppy liquid is imbibed at both lunch and dinner i.e. spread relatively evenly through the afternoon/evening, (b) the nocturnal peeing is in small quantities although every event brings relief, if only for half an hour or so...

    Update, and Puzzle

Thank you for the suggestion! I'm aware of the prostate issue. Sounds like, in most cases, it is benign (i.e. not cancer) and just an annoyance, with various drug treatments available. I will see what the doctor thinks.

    Update, and Puzzle

Greetings, My last post was about 15 months ago and that was also the last time I'd had an HbA1C check. I have been a bad boy because it was not until this week that I had a new blood test. Even worse, I have if anything increased my consumption of beer to something like four pints a day...

Six Months in UK, Life Is Good

Just had my second HbA1c test on the NHS since arriving in UK from America nearly six months ago. It comes out at 34 which is toward the bottom end of my typical range on a low-carb diet. Three months ago it was 37, but I have managed to push it down to 30 or 31 in the past (see signature). I...

    Shared GP appointments

Not sure about this idea. On the one hand, being able to share experiences with others who have the same condition sounds valuable. On the other, (1) we are all individuals who have their own needs, (2) it could end up being a forum to propagate a generic drugs-based T2 regimen which is not...

How Do They Diagnose What Type Of Diabetes You Have?

For what it's worth, my unscientific impression is that doctors who find a high HbA1c rely heavily on two things: the patient's age, and whether they are overweight. If the patient is middle-aged and overweight, they will assume T2 and start treating you for it. If you are a child or in early...

    Packed Lunch Box

Pork scratchings are an acquired taste ... but my favourite snack nowadays is a variant called "Mr. Porky Crispy Strips." Tastes much better than traditional pork scratchings, I think. Carbohydrates per 20g serving 0.1g (it comes in 40g bags). Very salty, but that applies to all sorts of snacks...

    Which Carbs?

I have four small slices of banana with breakfast (one banana lasts for 3 days). Also two squares of 85% cocoa chocolate per day after coffee. Otherwise, almost no carbs in my *food*. But my big "cheat" is beer....

    Lenny Henry

Had fun watching the Lenny Henry birthday special last night. I hadn't realised that he has T2 (and that his mother died of T2 complications after a double amputation). There have been previous threads about him on this forum but they were a while back. Just thought, "Happy Birthday Lenny" and...

Interesting. Back in the USA, they only did the test relevant to the current situation, so for instance most of mine were just HbA1c every three months in the past 1.5 years, except back in February of this year when I had an annual medical so they did the whole battery of tests.

Thanks. As far as you know, can that wait until actual meds are prescribed (I'm not taking any yet) or should it be done immediately upon registering with the GP, even if one is not taking meds? Also: I am over 60. As I understand it, all NHS patients over 60 get free prescriptions, and to my...

You suggestion is a good one, but I'd still far rather wait for the next lab test. I'm only mildly concerned about the rise in A1c over the past six months, and my NHS doctor seems not concerned at all (to the contrary, when she phoned after the test results came through, she praised me for...

I agree. This is not really supposed to happen anymore: as I understand it, the measurement of HbA1c was internationally standardised a decade ago. Prior to then, it was apparently not unusual for different labs to produce very different results even if they were top-notch facilities and even if...

When you have a big nose, people find it easier to recognize you.... In the previous avatar I was 17 years old, the new photo was taken at my daughter's wedding last month -- I turned 61 earlier that month. Arguably I am no longer "stabilised". For about a year I was stable at around 30 or 31...

So I am slightly puzzled by the NHS so far. Very impressed by local clinic, and doctor. Also cool to have online access to my records (I had this in U.S. too). Classified as diabetic, supposed to be getting the regular checks. But what happens next? I'm not a self-tester, so should I just make...
