    assessment of almond plum pancakes!

I bought my almond flour in the co-op. But the recipe as such didn't work - it wouldn't flip! I've read that almond flour lacks gluten and doesn't stick together as well. So I just let it fall apart and served it that way rather than throw it out. Tasted fine. All I did was use the 2-egg recipe...

    moving home

Hi hellboy Lots of questions there. Obviously changing homes is a risk whoever you move in with and whether or not you have DB. So take that bit of 'normal' anxiety out of the equation. Then - what about writing down all the worries you have about what might go wrong with your particular...

can you change from type 2 to type 1?

Hi Petal50 If you're not happy with how your health is, it makes sense to book to see your GP again and tell him your concerns. Any of us could say, well we've experienced that too or even offer advice - but it wouldn't be about your body and your health. So go get an expert opinion and then...

    assessment of almond plum pancakes!

Just to show up some pointers. In case anyone's interested... I found three laden plum trees in the garden the other day (I joke not - in 11 years they've never done anything to disclose their identity) so simply had to work out how to eat some plums. They're Victorias but the size of ping-pong...

    Hartleys ready made Jelly

We used to call that Kentish Cream when I lived in a more civilised county as a young Girl Guide! Typical camp fare, made in washing up bowls to accommodate the quantity! DG

Results are In - and they are pretty good!

What a fantastic and encouraging story and it highlights two things for me. One, that we have to be proactive in whatever way we choose or think is right for our own situation and bodies, and two, the docs often are pleased if we have success because at heart I think that's what they want for...

    HBA1C....The count is in ...............

Yes very well done on the hba1c. It's funny about the cholesterol and hdl isn't it. they maybe say "okay" because the ratio comes in at around 3 which they like. So your low hdl is saved by your cholesterol being also low... mine came in earlier this week at 6.4/2.1 so my cholesterol is no way...

    Newly Diagnosed Wife

Hi Duncan I see no one has been around to answer you yet. Possibly holiday week? I'm not on insulin so I wouldn't be that person! But you have your hands full right now and all the difficult issues to face that happen to loads of us. Stay around and someone will come along and offer some help...

    moderation!

After reading through the previous 46 posts and wishing it wasn't happening (we've been here before!) I would like to remind people that although taking one's bat home can sometimes be seen as leaving the field to the devil, which is probably why you're not doing it, there is also the seriously...

    Channel4. The Hospital. Liver problems.

I didn't think I could cope with anything like another toe being amputated, so I didn't watch this week. I mean, there was no warning about bloody messes for wimps like me, so I gave livers a miss. They might have been going to chop them up and package them for Tesco. I only watched the DB one...

    fedup

That's tough, Bob, and medication does often affect libido/performance. Hopefully your partner will understand, though it must be very annoying for you too. But things will change. I endorse Jessie's recommendation of exercise, as it releases endorphins - the happy hormone. If nobody's looking...

    Hartleys ready made Jelly

The packet ads on the blackcurrent sachet suggest adding some fizzy drink or something to the water when making it up to one pint. I thought of trying it with diet coke but decided to do my first one "neat" so to speak. I made it do three helpings altho you could munch the lot technically. As...

    hbA1c result

I was just going to warn you of the same thing as Sue said - wondering if you'd seen my earlier post and maybe hadn't realised I'm type 2 and not on meds so it's safer to aim low. You've done really well and should be proud of your achievement because you've had to do all that injecting as well...

    Weight gain and diabetes

That's really hard, to try to do all the right things and look like you've failed. But it isn't failure because this is still very early days and you're just trying to find the right balance of type of food, medication (your profile says oral so it can be adjusted presumably) and exercise. So...

    pleased with test results

Feeling good this morning because I just got my test results from a couple of weeks back. hba1c 5.5% chol total 6.4 (up from 6.1 in Feb but ratio to HDL is now at 3 so the doc isn’t bothered, but any ideas on how to get it below the recommended 5.0 would be appreciated; I don’t want to go on...

    fat and carbs info please

Thank you :D That's what I wanted to hear. It's doing both at once. Don't really care why and how. So the answer to my query is nearer b) than a). I just was worried I might not be testing at the right moment after something a bit higher in carbs, even if taken with fat. That would be a...

    fat and carbs info please

Thank you, I understand those words but I'm none the wiser!! So why does eating fat have any relevance to the absorption of carbs if each goes at its own pace? DG

    fat and carbs info please

I keep wondering (even a year down the line!) exactly what is meant by fat slowing down the absorption of carbs. Does it mean a) the fat goes in first and then the carb breaks down to sugar, so we'd best check much later for the effect, or b) the fat and carb go in together hand in hand so the...

    when to test?

diet coke doesn't *have* any carbs, surely? btw I also dilute Robinson's no-sugar orange 1:8 instead of 1:4 as on the instructions and that is a very low amount of carb. makes a good alternative to tea and coffee. DG
