    Shower surprises with CGM

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm glad it's not just me and I don't have to swap out for low carb soap!

    Shower surprises with CGM

Why even when fasting does having a shower rise my BG by 3/4? Am I so hungry I've started eating the soap or what? :)

    Breakfast Surprises using CGM

Dinner was Bolognese with cheese and broccoli fake cous cous. Peaked at 8.9 but already back down to 5.3. Great day. Thanks again for all the advice, no doubt low carb is the way to go.

    Breakfast Surprises using CGM

Okay so I took on board the advice. Hungry this morning and 6.1 on the CGM. Started with 50g full fat greek yoghurt with 30g raspberries, 5g psyllium and 5g chia. Followed it with 130g mushrooms, 2 low-carb sausages, a fried egg and a tomato. Delicious and very filling. I had a walk after...

How to get enough fibre on low carb?

It might have something to do with it, I just know I get pain (like colitis) if I don’t eat plenty of fibre.

How to get enough fibre on low carb?

Thanks. i think very low carb. Only thing I’ve eaten today is a small bowl of lentil soup and BG went up 5mmol and stayed there for 3 hours. Scared to eat anything else until tomorrow. Looks like lentils are off the menu.

How to get enough fibre on low carb?

I get gut pain without enough fibre. I used to struggle with it for years and porridge with wheat bran every day has kept in under control. Now I can’t have oats looking for alternatives and eggs and cheese won’t do It :(

How to get enough fibre on low carb?

Really struggling to cut carbs but still get enough fibre (30g per day). I have flaxseed but don’t fancy eating 100g every day of the stuff. I have psyllium and chia which are both vile but I can force a bit down if I have to. A lot of things high in fibre (lentils, whole grains etc) are also...

I'll be eating like this tomorrow. I thought mushrooms were ok / carb free? Thanks for the advice, taking it all in.

    Breakfast Surprises using CGM

I'll look it up, thank you. I always walk at least 10,000 steps per day, usually quite a bit more. I have to be careful after meals as it sends my BG up even more while I'm moving. I've completely cut out beer, wine, potatoes, bread, rice, pasta etc. And now oats of course. I'll see how it...

    Dinner dilemma with CGM

Ah I see, very helpful. it was 5.6 before eating, then still 8.8 after 2 hours. So I need to rethink gravy and carrot. Hmmm. It’s down to 7.7 now so nearly there after 3 hours.

    Dinner dilemma with CGM

So it took 2hr 45 mins for the BG to get under 7.8 again. I’ll sleep on it and try not to feel bad. Is the feeling of not doing this (diabetes management) properly just me or do others get it?

    Dinner dilemma with CGM

Thank you. Mainly steamed broccoli (decent portion), about a quarter roast onion, some red bell pepper and about 1 carrot. The only other things were salt and pepper. Trying to be good so only drank water with it. Gravy was made (by me) from the chicken dish with 20g cornflour and water. I had...

    Dinner dilemma with CGM

Apologies for the newbie alarmism, it’s all a learning curve. I could do with advice from anyone who understands these glucose spikes. BG before dinner was 5.6. Dinner was chicken and veg, I think under 10g starch (just home made gravy). BG started climbing, reached a peak of 12.1, stayed high...

    Breakfast Surprises using CGM

Thank you. I should start by saying this was advice I was given at diagnosis, I aren’t defending it. I do follow the logic, though, even if it’s in error. If I set fire to my tent I will soon be cold due to the draught. That doesn’t mean that fire makes things cold! Do you follow?

    Breakfast Surprises using CGM

Thank you. I think they were suggesting that high saturated fat caused the Type 2 condition, not that it had any effect on blood sugar levels. I was recommended (at diagnosis) to go for a low carb diet (under 125g per day) but also to reduce saturated fat. Unfortunately, a lot of the diet...

    Breakfast Surprises using CGM

Hello, I was diagnosed type 2 in July (result was 53) after a few years of rising HbA1c levels not highlighted by GP. Not medicated & so decided to "find my own way" seeking advice online etc. Recently trying a CGM which shows I wake up with 5.9 reading, which fluctuates all day around 7...
