Difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes?

I don't know any Type 2s who are "cured". The word is way too simplistic.

Difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes?

Type 2 is not necessarily hereditary.

Difference between type 1 and 2 diabetes?

I would agree with the definitions except for the Type 2 "medication is required" part. Lots of us manage purely through diet to keep blood sugar levels down...which can be hard work but in most cases is achievable.

    Oops...delayed confession

High time I fessed up to my rubbish latest HbA1c result a couple of weeks ago. I think progress from 54 to 49 to 43 to 41 and a surprising 37 a couple of months ago allowed for complacency to set in. I have been slowly easing off too much and the carbs have crept back in a little too...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.4 this morning...I think my blood sugar took a wrong turn at the less than 6/more than 6 junction; possibly misdirected by biscuits in the sat nav. I shall have to get it looked at.

    3 months later.....update

Sounds like you have really been putting the work in; I am sure it will be reflected in your results on Monday. Do you not use a meter ?

    Wasted time at hospital

Infuriating ! Poor mum. Just wanted to express my sympathy.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

6.0 yesterday morning...6.2 the day before.

What's the best piece of advice you can give?

Bear in mind that carbohydrates essentially turn to sugar in the blood.

Just Diagnosed... Assume I am Type 2 and Hello!

Hi. For me, it's all about diet and approach. Low carbing is what has worked/is working for me. Of late, I have eased up a bit and hoping the impact of that is manageable. In the end, while it is clear to me that the fewer carbs I eat the lower my blood sugar is, your diet has to be comfortably...

    struggling big time

Disgraceful. I'm sure it's beyond frustrating...this/these people are contributing to your battle on the wrong side). While it's probably the last thing you feel like doing...keep calling, keep writing, keep on it - direct your energy to tackling this dross. I really hope things get easier for...

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

You guys are getting some great morning readings. Generally, I manage under 6mmols on waking, and I'm ok with that...but this morning's was a horrible 7.2; either due to liver dump or the fact that I have been way less strict with my low carb approach which has served me well for couple of years...

One Year Living With Type 2 Diabetes

That's great; I really enjoyed reading about your progress. I have eased off a little (ok...quite bit really) on my low carb diet too...I think things are creeping up a wee bit but nothing I can't handle. With you on the beer with dinner; a Franziskaner every few days is a lovely bonus.

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

Hi there. I've not been on this thread for some time for various reasons not worth going into. This morning's level was 5.9. I hope you are all doing ok.

The start of a new journey - just diagnosed Type 2

Many of us here would agree that the general "healthy eating" approach dished out as standard is far from ideal for a Type 2 diabetic. Obviously, we don't know what's on this 9 pages you refer to...but I am willing to take a considered guess. As @Mike D has commented, we can offer advice of more...

    Extreme dizziness and blurred vision

Hi. I don't have a solution...just wanted to reply to offer whatever. We do all differ so it's hard to give answers..but for what it's worth, I have certainly had levels like that and did not feel at all unwell..and I don't think that's unusual. For me, and for most I think, feeling unwell tends...

Try peppermint tea at night...did the trick for me.

Off meds but BG is rising should I worry?

I'd give it a bit more time before deciding anything. We all differ, as you know, so it's impossible to predict how someone else will respond with any precision. I was placed on Gliclazide when diagnosed nearly three years ago but I chose to come off it to try managing my blood sugar purely...

    Am I expecting too much?

I think you're doing ok, Paula. Stop worrying. If you feel you need to get the levels lower, think again about even fewer carbs..but if you can keep your level around where it is...I would think less about it all and get one with life. One point to note is that metformin is not really about...
