I've been very, very,, very stupid.

@Margarettt Please post this explanation in your original thread so that new members reading that thread can see it and not just see the original attempts at explaining your supposedly random high BG levels .

Hi I have a question about Dr Greger author of, How not to die. And exponent of the plant-based diet, he says fat causes diabetes not carbs.

The only ancestors that I'm interested in regarding diet etc. are much more immediate ones. Just enough back that although heart disease, cancer, T2 diabetes, obesity were being diagnosed, they weren't anything like as common as today. Then ask what has changed (both positive and negative). For...

    Dawn phenomenon

Eat a zero carb snack or meal if you feel it's getting too high. Eating something tells the body there is no need for extra glucose, since you have just 'hunted/gathered' your first meal of the day and can now source your energy requirements from your food. If that food was zero carb or next to...

What do people think of the Sinocare Safe AQ blood monitor?

The 2 monitors most recommended as decent quality with low running cost (test strips) on both UK diabetes forums are: SD Gluco Navii and Spirit TEE2+

Just Got my Casual "Oh your blood test showed prediabetes"

I had always suffered from cold hands and cold feet throughout my life - particularly when skiing ( I have skied in the Rockies). But no longer! A way that some people can lose weight on Low Carb even when eating more calories ( there are twice as many calories in fat than in same weight of...

Just Got my Casual "Oh your blood test showed prediabetes"

Think about this for a second: If it was true then there would be no need for all those drugs for Type 2 diabetes - just drink milk instead! So no metformin, no Gliclazide etc.

Just Got my Casual "Oh your blood test showed prediabetes"

How can losing some of the water that carbs retained in your body be harmful? Are you not allowed to drink at work? How can losing some fat (probably only in/around your internal organs) be harmful? Do you need fat as insulation because you are going to North or South Pole, or going swimming...

Just Got my Casual "Oh your blood test showed prediabetes"

Carbs spike insulin - I know because high Blood Glucose spike Insulin and carbs spile blood glucose. On the other hand, high fat dairy doesn't move Blood glucose at all - so seems highly unlikely to spike insulin. However, as a pre-diabetic or diabetic, any natural way of rising insulin is a...

Just Got my Casual "Oh your blood test showed prediabetes"

Oh and for an HbA1C test, it doesn't matter if fasted or not since it measures the glycation of red blood cells and they 'live' an average of 3 months - so it's like an average of your blood glucose levels over the last 3 months.

Just Got my Casual "Oh your blood test showed prediabetes"

Hi @SargeMaximus and welcome to the forum. I am/was a TOFI - a slim T2 Diabetic (now in remission for over 3yrs). I ate similar to what you seem to be doing now for over 10 years (low fat, lots of whole grains and fruit). Then I was diagnosed with Cardio Vascular disease (result 3x bypass) then...

Hi I have a question about Dr Greger author of, How not to die. And exponent of the plant-based diet, he says fat causes diabetes not carbs.

The last time I checked, Greger's actual job depends upon him being vegan. I 'm aware of claims that Insulin Resistance is caused by saturated fat, but I'm sceptical on 2 counts: 1. My BG meter tells me that I put my T2D into remission by going Low Carb, while at the same time I 'normalised'...

Type 2 Newbie…..too much good living + risk factors!

Hi @MazzyStarGirl and welcome to the forum. I see my colleague has already linked the nutritional thingy by Jo Kalsbeek. That was what I sued to get my T2D into remission and keep it in remission for years. So just 2 bits of information from me: 1. Most people find it's better to take Metformin...

Low carb but blood glucose running high

That lunch is probably low carb, but it depends upon how much carrot and peas you ate. Unlike broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage they can spike some of us more than you may expect - but I'm sure you tested that meal, right? Some similar veg that I find better are: swede, celeriac, green beans...

    Wading through porridge!

Hi @StuartR and a welcome to the forum from me. All (digestible) carbohydrates that humans eat digest into glucose (sugar) and thus tend to raise our Blood Glucose until/unless our Insulin rises enough to drive the glucose into muscles or fat cells. In Type 2 diabetics, this process takes...

    Low carb cereal type breakfasts?

Back before I became fat adapted, I used to eat breakfast and it was always 2 boiled eggs - for around 1 gm carbs. If my Dawn Phenomenon was particularly strong that day, the breakfast of eggs would actually lower my BG at the 2hrs post prandial mark. I used to batch cook them in advance - so...

    How many carbs per day

Hi @Vern@ and welcome to the forum. Just not bread and potatoes? what about all the other carbs in things like breakfast cereals, pasta, rice, biscuits, crackers, cakes, pies, fruit, parsnips etc. ? I needed to go down to below 40gms of carbs per day to get into T2D remission. I have a fairly...

Feeling a bit fed up with it all......here follows the pity party

There isn't much to base an opinion on and I don't have any solutions to suggest. Just what others have reported in the forums. Since your higher BG readings don't appear to be associated to food or drink then it seems that the extra glucose is coming from your liver. There are many possible...

    How can I control this?

Interesting that you and I interpreted the Op's statement in completely opposite ways. I thought by a fasting level they meant before breakfast. You interpreted it as being the reading after a longer planned fast. In either case, my comments still apply. I find your opinion of fasting for a...

    How can I control this?

Was that spike to 11.8 measured at 2 hrs after first bite? If not it could be a red herring. One of the longer term side effects of Prednisolone is poorly controlled Diabetes. Steroids and stains are amongst the most common medications which raise Blood Glucose, but I have not previously heard...
