Thank you. The bruising is impressive, but the numbers are going back down. I'll take that combination.

Odd things affecting BG, all types

I managed to trip over my shoelaces on Sunday - my face broke my fall (I have one heck of a shiner on my right eye!), since then my blood sugars have been a couple of points higher than my normal. They seem to be calming down again now, but 48+ hours of high readings with no change in diet.

    Don't WANNA!!!!

Thank you for all the positive comments. I did C25k week 1 day one this morning - so intervals of 1 minute run and 2 minutes walk. I managed to 'run' all of the running intervals. My running pace was WAY slower than my walking, but I did it. I did do the program 10 or so years ago and got to...

    Don't WANNA!!!!

That does make a lot of sense, but I loathe cycling, I would have to be under threat of imminent death to take that up. Swimming is far too high in overheads of ... get ready, go out, get changed, swim (with Other People!!! No, the horror!), get changed again, go home. Maybe there is damage in...

    Don't WANNA!!!!

Yes - lady of a certain age here as well (though many who know me would question the 'lady' descriptor. As would I really ...) But yes, you're right. I'm going to start it, at least to see how it goes.

    Low carb and vegetarian

I was so pleased when I read the packaging and discovered Quorn was low carb. The blokeshape has been vegetarian for over 40 years, it would have been really hard for him had I gone back to eating meat. It is so much easier to be vegetarian than it was when I first went veggie back in the...

    Don't WANNA!!!!

Since getting the 'you are in the prediabetic range' phone call from the GP back in June I have gone fiercely low carb, I've lost something over 25kg, and I've been walking at least 5 miles a day (I think of the 5 miles as one of the 'medicines' I have to take - it's MUCH easier than wrangling...

    Second HbA1c test

According to Patient Access the normal HbA1c range is 20 - 41 (I always double check my workings when I'm trying to remember numbers. I usually remember correctly but I'm rarely convinced I've remembered correctly), so that is a fabulous result, you're back there in the non-diabetic...

Type 2s What motivates you to control by diet?

A number in the pre-diabetic range was enough to motivate me. I watched my granddad suffer various diabetic complications through the 1970s, eventually dying without his legs when I was about 18. Currently a friend (a few years younger than me) is in hospital, pretty immobile, minus most of...

Has anyone used “No Guilt Bakes” products?

I've just been to https://www.buywholefoodsonline.co.uk and loaded up a basket of low carb baking ingredients.

Has anyone used “No Guilt Bakes” products?

Did everyone who uses this company get an email today about how ... the 2 year old with breathing difficulties was less important than updating the website? I was looking for something low carb and birthday celebration worthy and they looked like the best bet without making stuff myself (which...

I had my 'flu jab last Friday, no noticeable symptoms at all. I had the jab for the first time last year, same lack of excitement then as well.

    Diabetes caused by denim shrinkage?

That's definitely my plan - I lost a lot of weight with low carb about 15 years ago, but put most of it back. So, I know what I'm doing, I just need to do it better this time :-) Onwards and downwards!

    Diabetes caused by denim shrinkage?

I think the idea of 'too fat for your body' (I think that was the quote) is more useful. If you're carrying fat around your liver/pancreas then it matters less what your BMI is and a lot more that you've got a distribution of fat that's likely to cause issues. Nuance is always lost in...

    Diabetes caused by denim shrinkage?

I was fat in my teens/early 20s so it's easier for me. But still, I put a lot of weight on in the last 30+ years. And have shed most of it in the last 4 months or so with very low carb, since being told I was pre-diabetic back in June.

    Diabetes caused by denim shrinkage?

I saw this in The Guardian this morning: https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/sep/27/people-who-cant-fit-into-jeans-they-wore-aged-21-risk-developing-diabetes OK, my thread title is a touch misleading, it's about the preliminary results of a study by Prof. Roy Taylor about how losing...

Do you check BGs of people around you?

I tested the BlokeShape yesterday because he asked me to. He'd had a phone appointment with the GP which included the phrase 'you've not been diagnosed with diabetes yet have you?', which freaked him out more than a little. He's (I suspect) underweight, certainly very skinny, but has raised...

    Low carb; how many?

Thank you! Someone I did a course with years ago brought in her home made chocolate once. She warned people that they might not like it, but I thought it was great. I didn't get any details from her as to how she made it, but this looks promising. I will give it a go.
