First and foremost, buy a BG meter. In the meantime, would you like to tell us a little more about your diagnosis (BG level) and what you normally eat? That information will help others to help you.

What have you eaten today? (Low carb forum)

Our local M&C gets mixed reviews, but having seen that menu, I think we need to experience it for ourselves. I Googled the sausages and they sound wonderful. Given the name, I was hopeful fhey would be made in my neck of the woods, but apparently not. Please can you tell me where you buy...

    Help Needed Please (Menu Choices)

Thank you for your responses. I'm still undecided - not least because OH (who is actually quite supportive and fully on board with low carb eating) suggested I order the nasi goreng and just not eat the rice, which wouldn't be hard because the rice component is modest and very much outweighed...

    Help Needed Please (Menu Choices)

Thank you for responding. I should have said in my OP that it's only the main course I need to think about as we're having nibbles and pre-drinks before walking to the restaurant. Also, the only salad ingredients I eat are tomatoes, cucumber and coleslaw, which wasn't a problem before...

    Help Needed Please (Menu Choices)

We're going out for lunch with a group of friends next week, and I'm struggling with what looks like a very high carb menu (link below). It's annual event, and last year, pre-diagnosis, I had the nasi goreng, which is really good. Steak would be the obvious choice, but from previous experience...

Type 2s: What have you eaten today?

Yesterday: Friend's funeral; the wake was held at lunchtime in a local pub and I was anticipating the usual sandwiches, sausage rolls, quiches, etc, and was hoping there might at least be some sausages on sticks, but in fact the buffet was very diabetic-friendly. I had a slice of rare roast...

    Seriously? (Low Carb Advice)

Screenshot of diet advice from the other site. Maybe it's just my interpretation, but it appears to be saying low carb as a means of reducing BG is an option only and not necessary for long term control. If I had read this in isolation and not bothered to DMOR, I'd probably still be...

    Desert options

Still on the subject of "sweet stuff", home-made marzipan petit fours have always featured in our house at Christmas. I've always been something of a marzipan addict and (ridiculously) almost my first thought on my T2 diagnosis at the start of the summer was, "What am I going to do about...

    Low Carb Bread Recommendations

One slice of Warburton's No Added Sugar wholemeal bread from a 400g loaf is 9g and has a negligible effect (if any) on my BG...but, of course, we all react differently.

    ........aaaaand another one!

I highly recommend Pure Via Demerara as an alternative to the "real" stuff - currently available in Tesco and also Holland & Barrett.

    Sugar in cooking

I use Pure Via; they have a range of "sugar" for different uses. So far, so good - My next experiment is going to be meringue. https://www.purevia.co.uk/

Fantastic cheeses and where to find them

I can highly recommend Isle of Wight cheese and they do supply retailers on the mainland. Their blue is delicious. https://www.isleofwightcheese.co.uk/cheese

Fantastic cheeses and where to find them

No worries - OH and I both like a decent brie. (Have to say, though, since the traffic on the Chichester by-pass, especially near John Lewis, has increased so much we rarely visit these days.)

    Help

This is a link to a whole thread about sourdough, which might be of help. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/adventures-in-sourdough.200541/page-3#post-2659753

Fantastic cheeses and where to find them

That's quite close to me; my local Aldi has British Brie, but not Burland Blue, and OH loves blue cheese. Would you mind telling me which Aldi has it, please?

What was your fasting blood glucose? (with some chat)

I'm also an owl; my schedule runs fairly close to yours. Apart from tea and a coffee with cream, I rarely consume anything before midday, if then, sometimes not until 3pm, because I'm just not hungry. Dinner is usually sometime between 8 and 10pm (fortunately, my OH is also an owl, so no...

    Going up to 8mmol/L

I find Kind bars pretty good; they have no effect on my BG (although, of course, other people may have a different reaction). Currently, they're £2.00 for three at Sainsburys if you have a Nectar card.

    T2D Friendly Products

I've just discovered Pure Via demerara sugar alternative (they also do icing sugar, which might come in useful for Christmas goodies). I'm one of those who can tolerate porridge and it hasn't been the same without the sugar; now I can use "demerara" and cream without giving my meter an attack...

Keto and Low Carb Food Festival

Direct trains to Temple Meads from Reading take just over an hour. (I'll make sure I'm visiting a relative in Bristol, so I'll be able to walk to Cabot Circus. :))
