    Newly diagnosed T2

Welcome and yes, your head will be going crazy - mine did for 2-3 months. But well done on taking steps to address your condition. Lots of good advice above. Mine is: exercise helps. I walk. I enjoy it, it's free (apart from suitable footwear) and there are plenty of places round where I...

New evidence shows it's a waste of time.

Can you give a link or links to the 'new evidence' please. Not to mention to the evidence for the rest of your claims.

I think there will probably be one in the Autumn along with the flu jab.

    Type 1 and struggling

I had two emergency admisssions maybe 15 years ago and used the term 'escape' to describe going home!

Don't suffer in silence, go back to your GP and tell them about your problems. There are other treatment options.

AFAIK you have have TOFI without evidence on the pancreas / liver, and the only definitive diagnosis is from MRI or CT scans. And I think you have been unlucky to receive such poor support. I think the advice to eat smaller portions might well be pragmatic - switching to (usually) no...

    Newly Diagnosed Type 1

Sorry you are having such a hard time, however the OP needs to know it's not like that for everyone regardless of if they are T1 or T2. I totally understand the questions bugging you - I was very happy to be home along when I was recovering from major emergency surgery as it meant I didn't...

Coming to terms with being T2 and remaining a foodie

I got a pack in Asda today, had a portion with a cannellini bean sauce with onion, tomatoes, 1/2 a small red pepper and some cavolo nero, plus some pimenton for heat. There was also fresh basil as I found a pack in the reduced section. It was very good, and produced a nice big meal. Now for...

You are carrying something, that's what matters and thanks for the information about chocolate. Despite the fat, the chocolate thankfully worked for my friend - he guzzled a bar in a couple of minutes.

    New to all this

My Hba1c was also 56 at diagnosis, I got a phone appointment with a dietitian. I had no symptoms at all other than usually needing a 3am pee. It took me some time to get over the shock of the diagnosis, but while I was doing that a bit of reading suggested reducing carbohydrates and also...

    Newly Diagnosed Type 1

Yes, it's normal to feel like that. If you read other 'newly diagnosed' posts almost all of them mention the mental turmoil. One thing to remember is that type 1 isn't caused by how you have lived your life in any way. I'm not type 1 so can't comment on that aspect except to say make sure...

Interesting. I found Asda stock it, and it looks like the Edamame Spaghetti from the same range is just as low carbohydrate. Whilst home-made cauliflower rice is cheaper it's not the same as finding some 'pasta' at the bottom of the bowl!

Type 2 diabetic with major gut problems and my GP won't even see me

I would also be surprised if I had a normal bowel movement after rice, chips & 1/4 naan! Going back to the problem, most GPs have a few appointments blocked off for emergencies. I don't especially like telling my medical issues to the receptionist but I would if I had to to get an appointment...

    Newly diagnosed

If you look through posts here, being overwhelmed, shocked and confused is absolutely normal. My personal view is the key thing is to get on with doing what you need for your condition whilst coming to terms with it. You also asked about steroid use. There is information here about this...

    Diabetes and weight loss

Aquarobics is excellent exercise. To quote the BHF: It gives you a good cardiovascular workout, gently increasing your pulse and breathing rate, so it’s great for helping to improve your heart health. It strengthens and tones muscles – the resistance of the water means that opposing muscle...
