    Does Codeine lower blood sugars

Maybe? At least codeine, possibly combined with morphine, were considered a treatment for diabetes (apparently reducing glucose in urine) before insulin was discovered.:nailbiting:

    Best App to record results?

You can use the app independently of the meter.

Is insulin only for type 1?

Well, sorta yes - unlike other drugs, there is no limit to the amount of insulin you can inject whereas there's only so much insulin your pancreas can make even with drugs to stimulate insulin production. Your doctor should consider insulin therapy after unsuccessfully trying other medication.

Type 1s: What stupid things have people said to you?

That is hilarious - is he a big fan of The Rock? If you were to complain about every incorrect depiction of diabetes in popular media I don't think you'd have the time to watch any.

Aspirin - Good or Bad for Type 1 Diabetes?

    Something like this, maybe?

Post-Meal BG in Pregnancy - any tips please??

If practical, you could try splitting the meal: bolus for the entire meal, and eat half of it now and the other half an hour later.

How do doctors differentiate between types.

Simple: Unless you present with DKA or are a child, you get diagnosed with T2. When T2 meds still don't work after a year or two, they consider T1/T1.5. The increasing prevalence of obese T2 children may force them to make changes however.

    Sports drinks

Too bad the science doesn't support the claims: Yeah, I admit that there there probably is a market of elite athletes and people with special medical conditions (e.g. T1 diabetics who need 100g carbs per hour whilst running to avoid passing out) but the average healthy gym-goer, not so much.

    Sports drinks

I think Lucozade does make, without irony, a diet/sugar free version of their sugar water. I tend to use Zero Extreme (£6 for 20 dissolving tablets that make 40l) but I can't tell you if they do any good but it certainly tastes better than tap water form the gym.

    Diabetes app

Now, if only the app worked properly on iPad and didn't have arbitrary limits on values (all insulin pens allow you to deliver 60u per injection, so we are going to make an app that only goes up to 50u - brilliant!)

Nurse visit today - Insulin time!

Assuming for the moment that you have not been misdiagnosed, which is certainly possible since a lot of T2 do go on to require insulin, keep in mind that T1 (there is no insulin because the pancreas was destroyed by trauma or autoimmune attack, so we need to replace it) is a lot simpler than T2...

    should you reuse pen needles

No. In general, I'd suggest following the instructions that came with your medication rather than assuming that anything you do not understand is unnecessary or a conspiracy.

    coffee

Huh, Think like a Pancreas suggests that caffeine increases BG - and we all know the surest sign of having cured diabetes is a hyperglycemia.

    Boxing being a diebitc

I'm not an expert on boxing but I would be afraid that the increased risk of injury (another boxer hitting you) would make good control harder (cortisone can induce severe hyperglycemia)... but I may be completely wrong about boxing.

First "at home" trial for an artificial pancreas

Even if that's true, the artificial pancreas will be using the usual subcutaneous infusion set so it can't take advantage of that effect. The goal of the new system is to completely disregard all information (e.g. If you are going to eat a burger, or go for a run), and the result is necessarily...

First "at home" trial for an artificial pancreas

I can't help but feel that it's a significant step back to go back to chasing highs - e.g. If you eat something, the system won't respond to it unitil after your BG has already gone up noticeably... Or maybe I'm missing something there. Also, excellent celebrity soundbites: "When you do the...

    SUGAR-FED UP

DUK think loads of non-sugar carbs are a jolly good idea, regardless of whether they are right about it I don't see why you would expect them to oppose it.

    Fasting blood this morning

Ahem... If you are on basal-only regime, then how do you have access to bolus insulin needed for a correction? The basal insulin you have (lantus, Levemir or NPH) can't really be used for corrections, and instead you'd have to gradually increase your daily basal dose until your fasting readings...

    Creme egg

36CP = 540g carbs (=1kg egg given that they tend to be 50%sugar)? You ate all of that in one go?
