Is it ok to use different brands for basal and bolus injections?

(Sorry for any mistakes - I had to retype this from memory becauseiPad is bloody useless and lost everything while I looked up that image at the end) Yes - in the sense that there is no reason you need to take NovoNordisk branded insulin aspart (brand name NovoRapid, also known as Novolog which...

Concerns - Diabetes Technology, pens, pump, meters etc....

It's not, which is why your nurse made no such claim; fact is that insulin pumps allow for a insulin regime that is closer to insulin produced by a healthy person (e.g. You can lower basal rate for exercise rather than having to eat tons of carbs, and the pump simply automates what is...

Please change insulin needles and lancing device needles EVERY single time.

Do you ignore all safety advice you don't understand? Yes, it is theoretically possible that you (and your fellow forum dwellers) are smarter than all the scientists working in the field (for example, the NHS isn't known for paying for interventions unless they save them money or significantly...

    "Stacking Insulin"

No, you are wrong - you crucially missed having to account for the increased BG. As a rule of thumb, 25% of insulin is used up per hour, and all the carbs will have entered the bloodstream by two hours... So in your case, you'd take 2u for the carbs - correction for insulin on board + correction...

    'diabetic breakfast' on Eurostar

If that's the case then why would they recommend that you do not order "diabetic meals" because they may be unsuitable for diabetics?

Anonymous Question What's the best multivitamin for diabetics?

I'd suggest you go see a doctor before treating possibly real conditions with a placebo. Go read the clinical trial - the manufacturer admits that they do jack all to diabetes except improving psychological well being scores a bit.

Dafne course, what is it about?

Anything other than extreme low-carb will have bad press on this forum. DAFNE doesn't teach that that you need to low-carb, and as such is completely worthless. It's completely missing the point - DAFNE simply teaches you how to adjust insulin based on what you eat, and as such is an essential...

    Spinach

I remember(cooked spinach) with scrambled eggs being quite nice and I'm quite surprised just how difficult it is to find frozen spinach in shops over here(given that "rahmspinat is ubiquitous in Germany _ Iceland seems to be the only shop to carry frozen spinach at all.

    Lancet Confession

So by your logic, literally playing Russian roulette is a perfectly safe pastime and we'd be way over the line to tell children not to do it because it doesn't kill every time? Yes, you are free to kill yourself if you wish but putting others at risk through ignorance (the equivalent of telling...

    ID Bracelets

You can get pretty much anything from these two sites; I'd suggest maybe getting a wristwatch-style one since they are adjustable, and without fiddly bits that are rather difficult to close with just one hand ;)

    Lancet Confession

Check the instructions that came with your meter but most lancing devices are designed to be used by a single person only. The third post in this thread is by a mod so it's clear that the site encourages the reuse of lancets.

    Any advice on handling doctor?

You have the right to refuse medication, and since you obviously know more about diabetes than your GP I can't see a reason why you wouldn't That would be completely pointless - OP is worried about the OGTT, and the hba1c CANNOT be used to exclude diabetes diagnosed by other tests such as the...

    running out of insulin

You need to talk to your GP/surgery to get your prescription changed because a fixed amount of insulin each month is nonsense. The pharmacy/repeat prescription route mentioned is a service where the pharmacy obtains a presciption from your GP for you (saving you from having to request the...

Vitamin D and all that jazz.

Your reading comprehension is terrible since the very article you cited says: "Though, the study not really has proven the fact." [sic]

    Measurement units/conversions

Simplest rule is the "minus 2, minus 2 rule": to convert integer hba1c measured in % to mmol/mol subtract two to get the first digit and another two to get the second digit - e.g. 6% is (6-2)_(6-2-2)=42 mmol/mol. From there you can interpolate (5.5% is halfway between 31 and 42) and extrapolate...

Not taking long acting insulin, lantus.

The result of insulin-dependent diabetics not taking insulin is death. If historical evidence is not good enough for you (all such diabetics have died horrifically before insulin was discovered because we did not have insulin to treat them) here is no shortage of diabetics admitted to hospitals...

What is the highest blood glucose level ever recorded?

25 mmol/l when they measured it when I got diagnosed & admitted to ICU with DKA. According to the nurses, the highest they've had was 99 mmol/l - un diagnosed diabetic who tried to fix his low energy by drinking lots of Lucozade.

    Taking pre-meal readings only

In that case, I'd say basal is fine but you need bolus but I don't know the protocol for adding bolus to T2 regimes - you probably have 20ish BG after meals and you'd ideally want that to be <7.8.
