One year in and feeling low

Thank you everyone, for your supportive and encouraging replies. I have had a much better day today, all readings under 7. Have reassessed how I have been doing, and have realised that maybe I am allowing myself the odd thing that I wouldn't have, a year ago. I am getting back to really watching...

One year in and feeling low

Hi all I wonder if anyone else has had the same thing going on. I have been trying SO HARD to get it right, but I am beginning to realise there are no absolutes by which I can measure my progress. By that, I mean, I cannot rely upon eating a certain food and doing a certain amount of activity...

    testing sugar levels

Hello I test upon waking, 2 hours after breakfast, 2 hours after lunch and sometimes randomly. On average 3 times a day. I think it's the only way to be really informed about your sugars, and I certainly don't think it is a waste of time. CathyN

    Girlfriend of a newbie!!

Hi Well done for being so pro-active and getting things moving. You will find loads of help, information and support on the forum. Your partner needs to start testing his Blood Sugar on waking, before eating, and 2 hours after eating (called postprandial readings). For safety his sugars need...

    Anyone else been in denial?

hello ! You know, don't you, that the only way things will change is if YOU give yourself a "kick up the backside"!!!! Whatever anyone else says to you, whatever anyone else does, it's only you who can have any bearing on which direction your diabetes takes..... And the worst case scenario is a...

    Anyone else the same?

Re: Anyone else the same? Hi My Dad, my sister and my cousin all type 2. - and who knows who before us?? On my Dad's side most of the deaths were heart disease related and I'm fairly convinced that they could have been type 2 but undiagnosed. Cathy N

weight loss but BM readins still high

hi ! Well done on your weight loss, and keep up the good work. Your post meal readings are reliant upon what you ate at the meal, and your activity since the meal. Are you keeping a food diary? if not, I'd suggest it's a good idea. You will be able to work out which foods are raising your...

    Newly diagnosed

Hello Understand your confusion at the moment, but things will become much clearer for you very soon. You need to get a meter from the chemist, or on line, and begin to test your blood to get blood sugar readings before you eat and 2 hours after you eat. Carbohydrates are great energy givers...

Whats the most annoying thing people say about diabetes?

well, my pet hate is being told that I don't LOOK like a diabetic ............ Whatever that is supposed to mean. I suspect, the general perception is that diabetic people are overweight - so that's a misconception which I find unfair, to thin diabetics and to heavier diabetics who get blamed...

    overnight fasting blood sugar

Thanks, yes - I'm 8 months into diagnosis and test regularly throughout the day. Having experienced a gradual and now sustained decrease in my early morning reading I feel something must be getting better. It is now beginning to happen during the day too. Due for another HbA1c in February, so...

    Statins ?

Hi I was told that I might need statins. My cholesterol was fine for someone without diabetes, but thought too high for someone WITH diabetes. I am resisting statins and have lowered my LDL (lousy cholesterol) - and upped my HDL (happy cholesterol) by having a Benecol drink every morning...

    overnight fasting blood sugar

Hello I was diagnosed back in March 2011. Started taking action in June. I have just had an unprecedented run of ten+ days of early morning fasting results in the 5s. I do not know why except that the action I am taking might be gathering some sort of momentum - certainly haven't done anything...

    Can anyone help

Hi I think it's a good idea that you're going to see your doctor! As soon as you get a diagnosis, you will be able to start taking action! Although I'm obviously not a doctor, it does sound as if something is not quite right! If you get a diagnosis of pre-diabetes, or type 1 or 2 - you have...

How do you cope with a partners diabetes

Dear deebee59 It sounds like a really difficult situation you're in - and I know how hard it is to watch someone in such a negative spiral, that just gets worse and worse (there is alcoholism in my family). It sounds as if you have done and said just about everything you can to support and...

    choosing a meter

Hi!! Yes, it's a bit daunting, I know. When I went to Boots they only had AccuChek meters, so that's the one I got! An AccuChek Nano. It is absolutely fine and I'm very happy with it. I buy my own strips and those are the only drawback £27 for 50 ....... Good luck!
